12 Hours of Sebring 2012

60th anniversary of the famous 12hr of Sebring is a little over two weeks away.
Still remember the Flying lizard- Risi finish of a few years ago, classic.

Who from here is going to be there?

DaveE 02-28-2012 10:19 AM

Sure hope it doesn't rain.

Oh wait, that's those "stock cars".

jjwood 02-28-2012 11:32 AM

Anyone know if / when it'll be televised?

I believe it'll show on TV delayed/edited on ABC, and live on ESPN3.com and ALMS.com - like last year.

Each year I tell myself I'll go (I live 2h away), and I never do. Truth is, unless you bring a ladder or have access to the roof of a motorhome, Sebring sucks for spectating, period... There's like 4 grandstands (sarcasm), most of the time loaded with people, so you get to watch the roof of racecars pass by. I love driving at Sebring, but I'd rather watch the race on TV. Or in this case on the computer... Too bad it's no longer on SpeedTV for the duration.

I'll be there at the Porscheplatz.

rfuerst911sc 02-28-2012 03:04 PM

I'll be there.

Just got tickets from a local dealer, so I'll be there. How do you get into the Porsche Corral and do the parade? Do you need to register for that?

That's a P.C.A. coordinated thing...check with your local region or on the PCA main site www.pca.org or there could be a link on the Sebring Raceway website...

Porscheplatz at 12 Hours of Sebring

If the 50th Rolex 24 at Daytona was any indication, the 60th Anniversary Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring Fueled by Fresh from Florida will also set some historical records. Porsche will be well represented both on the track - with the newest version of the GT3 RSR - and with facilities for Porsche owners, PCA members and race fans as well. The Sebring Porscheplatz will be located in its historic spot near the entrance to the track along turn 17.

Special Porscheplatz tickets are required to gain access to the reserved parking areas and space is limited – please order tickets in advance: online at sebringraceway.com or call 800-226-7223. Only Porsche vehicles will be permitted in the main parking area; non-Porsches will be directed to the reserved overflow area across from the Porscheplatz. Please plan to arrive early on Saturday.

All PCA members are welcome to visit the Sebring Porscheplatz. In addition to the closed-circuit television feed and cold beverages, activities include presentations from Flying Lizards Motorsports, former race winner Hans Herrmann, Mobil 1, Porsche Cars North America (on the new 991), and Michelin. Several significant door prizes will be offered; the Sebring Porscheplatz is made possible by Porsche AG, PCNA, Florida’s Porsche Dealers, and is staffed by PCA members from across the country. Should you wish to volunteer, a few select spots are still available. Contact David O’Neal, PCA’s Zone 12 Representative at PCAzone12rep@gmail.comor call 407-808-6461.

Porsche is once again offering its special Porsche Customer Hospitality Center that provides catered food (three meals per day), lounge areas, video feed from the race, Team/Sponsor presentations, driving simulators for Xbox, and a gift bag. Admission to this facility must be purchased separately from Porsche online at: porscheracingusa.com. Porsche Hospitality packages can be purchased without track admission, should you already have race tickets.

I 100% agree with you Greg.

Plus this year features Corvette...yuk.

I'll be there

URY914 03-11-2012 07:27 PM

I don't know why you think Sebring isn't good for viewing. The fences are low and there are berms for spectactors.

Probably because I've been spoiled by "bowl" tracks like Sears point, Laguna seca, and others where you can see almost the entire race from anywhere... Berms are few and far between and often packed IMO... I've gone to historics, VARA and others, each time I walk a LOT and see little.... I really love Sebring to drive on, but yeah, I find is dissapointing to spectate... no biggie, I guess it's just my high standards, don't mean to discourage anyone from going ;-)

Looks like I'm gonna miss Sebring now too:(
Re-screwed up my back on Sat (also missed the Concours:() and have spent the last 2 days on my back, not moving very well and don't think sleeping in an RV & walking the way I do at the race will not do well for me right now:D.. Here it to the Petite LeMans...

Is there any coverage of this event?

David McLaughlin 03-17-2012 09:42 AM

I'm watching on ESPN3 via my Xbox. Having just worked on the new Green Hornet GT3, thats the team I'm rooting for.
