My best friend's Dad died
As a reminder that I am getting older I am now starting to see my friends' parents passing on. Donald Enloe Sr. was a hell of a guy. I was scared as hell of him when I was a kid, but came to admire him when I got older. There was a lot of "The Great Santini" in him. I joined the Army, partly as a result of his influence. After he retired I came to know him better and he treated me as an equal. But I knew then and I know now, he was a better man than I could ever hope to be.
From his obit: "Donald R Enloe Sr., 78, of Lenexa, Kansas passed away at the University of Kansas Hospital on February 27, 2012. Funeral service will be held at 10:45 A.M. Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at Maple Hill Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Leavenworth National Cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to service from 10-10:45 A.M. Don served in the US Army for 28 years, qualified Airborne, Ranger and Special Forces. Don served 30 month's with the Special Forces in Viet Nam earning the Legion of Merit w/Oakleaf, 5 Bronze Stars, 2 w/V for Valor, 2 Army Commendation Medal's w/V, Purple Heart and numerous other medals and commendations. Donald was born on January 28, 1934 to Ray and Pauline Enloe. He is preceded in death by his son, Michael Enloe; brother, Richard H. Enloe. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn J. Enloe; sons, Donald R. Enloe Jr., Daniel Enloe and Mark Enloe; brother, David E. Enloe; sister, Barbara E. Cunningham; 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren."

May he rest in peace. He's definitely earned it. Does sound like a hell of a guy. And perhaps a little of him lives on in you.

Sounds like he lived a full life. The sad thing is is that Viet Nam Vets are dying quicker than WWII vets.
God Speed SIR!

Well, he was a veteran in the Army by the time Viet Nam came along. I'm sure he was one of the bravest of the brave. RIP Don Enloe.

Sorry to hear. May he RIP.
Lost my dad 2 yrs ago, and have been seeing a lot of my friends I grew up with, parents pass away the past few yrs. Kind of an eye opener on our own mortality.
