Regular didn't burn and you can get them for about 75 cents per piece. They last for two to three years (usually more under normal use) compare to a 15 dollar light bulb that last 15 years (not to mention they are not so bright) why are they getting rid of them? Somebody somewhere failed math. Did I mention I HATE CFLs.

All the above problems are exactly why I would out and bought a full pallet of 100, 75 & 60 watt normal bulbs. I wont ever need to buy any bulbs the rest of my life. By the time I die and leave them to my kids, they will actually be worth something. lol

had CFL's go out within minutes and non have ever lasted more then 3 months.

Thats an interesting move! There are LED bulbs out now that you wouldn't be able to distinguish from an incandescent ($200 a bulb). I have some reflectors in the kitchen that are the same...should be on the market for less than 10% of that in a couple years.

I too hate CFL's. The incandescent bulbs are really just giant heaters and super inefficient. You can get a halogen bulb that puts out more light for the same wattage than a normal incandescent. Halogen isn't going anywhere as far as I know. We aren't stuck with CFL's - LED/Halogen are equal to or greater than the normal incandescent.

For the recessed light, try the EcoSmart conversion kit that HD sells. It's a CREE rebrand.

It completely replaces the bezel and has a diffuser and uses different colors of LEDs behind it for great color rendering.

It also starts instantly compared to the screw in ones, so it must have a quick start capacitor or something. Best LED I've seen yet. In several states they are $25, still $40 here in WA, so I'm holding out past my first test one for a bit.

We'll be past CFLs in no time I hope.

I liked the color of the Phillips bulb, but the delay when it was switched on and the cost sucked. I bought one of the Cree/ecosmart kits that you mention. You're right, they come on instantly, they are cheaper (25%), and they look better (bezels). The color is a bit warmer but is still good. Thanks for the tip!

My incandescent bulbs work just fine.

The other bulbs will last a lot longer and use a lot less electricity doing it.

From the content of this thread........it sounds like they don't.

Wish I could chime in with a story about how my CFLs didn't last, but none of mine have ever burned out. It's getting to the point where I want them to start going out because I want to put in some LED bulbs.

I put 18 CFL outdoor floods, at 18 watts each in my backyard using one 20 Amp breaker.

They are a joke, no doubt a net loser in the energy column when considering the waste, production cost, etc... But saving energy was never really the point.
