Subaru BRZ fans read this!
Gents,
I know many on this forum have been following the BRZ like I have. The BRZ sounds like fun for 25K. I still want 300 horses no matter how Dan Neil writes the article. 2013 Subaru BRZ Review: It's Thinker Than You Fast It Is | Rumble Seat by Dan Neil - WSJ.com

We have plenty of those barns here, but I'm thinking NC because Dan Neil lives in Raleigh.

200hp and 2800lbs. Didn't Porsche do that 15 years ago with the Boxster.

Boxster started at $40k, now at $45k or so, IIRC.
We all are hoping this will be much less spendy. Wouldn't it be nice to have to choose between this and the new small Porsche roadster at $28k... |

I'll stick with my 263hp MazdaSpeed3! 280lbs of torque and a 6spd manual.

A car that has balanced performance at lower speeds has some appeal to me. Some cars are simply so good that they don't come alive until one reaches highly illegal velocities.

There will be plenty of go-fast parts for this car. There will be a supercharger kit. They will increase the horsepower over the life of the product. I figure by the time I'm ready to buy one, it will be 3-4 years into its life, possibly having already gotten its first power bump. (The wife is next on the list for a new vehicle and she desperately needs a kid carrier to replace the Sunfire.)

I think it's a nice change in direction for once. Modern performance cars have to really be pushed to get into the fun zone - which is also the illegal, lose your license zone.

In 3-4 years, this will be an awesome used car. There will be chips, turbo kits, mods, etc because of the production volume and the fact that, being a subaru/toyota engine, it'll be an indestructible tank from the factory.
But I would never pay $25k for something brand new that is slower than... well, everything. My Lotus wasn't much more than these things are gonna cost. Think about that. I had a guy at work that owns a Hyundai Genesis Coupe, and when he saw my lotus he was like "damn man I really wish I could have one of those"... I was like... you can... it probably cost less than your Hyundai. I really don't understand people. I went through the same things with the Boxster and people "wow I wish I could have one of those"... go on craigslist and pick one up for $13k then... it's not hard. New cars are for suckers and women who cannot learn to change their own oil and sparkplugs.

Not sure if I agree with that philosophy but with those specs my '81 911 will beat it handily in all areas except for mpg and creature comforts. Pass.

This topic really fires me up. I'm actually getting angry now when people see either of my cars and are like "I really wish I could have one of those" and they are driving a new Civic, or a Hyundai that costs way more. Either A) they are schmoozing me, and lying and really wouldn't want to own a Lotus or a Porsche.. or B) they are just idiots who can't do basic car research.
