1984 MBZ 190d~ opinions?

Good body and paint.
Good interior.

367k miles.
Runs terrible. Oil comes out the exhaust...Lots.

is it worth my time?

I can get it for $300-500.

Define good....

As for the engine, if it's past rebuilding, a new one can be picked up for less than 1k if you hunt around......It's pretty tough to get those buggers past rebuildable though.

Paint will buff out nicely and interior is not faded or ripped, good.

This would only be to turn a quick profit.
I'd love to find a good running motor out of a wreck, swap it in and sell the car for $2500.

I wouldn't count on quick, you could wait a while looking for a new engine.

No seriously, it sounds like it's hard to go wrong there. But if it has that many miles on the engine, how terribly worn out are the other bits such as bushings, bearings, etc.?

And why do Mercedes people hate the 190s so much?

Get the car! They are bullet proof. The engine, however, ain't gonna come easy or cheap, if it's any good. Friend had one many years ago. Same thing, oil out the exhaust after 280,000 miles. Broken piston & scored liner.
