They did a nice job of making it fit in with the surrounding architecture.

The yellow roof is supposed to be the hood of a car and considering the subject, I think it makes sense.

I think it's an abomination the way they planted that building in that area.
Either you work with the old , or you find another location to put down the new.

They did no such thing in this case.

Italian styling these days, i don't get it anymore, it's all flash and the lines of the olden days are nowhere to be found. Cheap really... Not like this :

It is flawless from whatever angle you look at it. There is nothing out of place.

That old house, is also like that, or rather, it used to be until they poured concrete around it and slapped that monstrosity next to it.

Things used to be much better then what we do now in 2012..

aerials are tough because 99% of the time, you don't see the place from that viewpoint. Nonetheless, I love to see old next to modern. I hate when you have old houses and the new houses are made to look like old houses, then you don't get to appreciate the old/new because you have no idea what's old or what's new.

maybe all the best styling has been done already (in the 1960s) and the only thing left to do is "flash"

I doubt that the concrete job looks any better on the ground.
The house looks like an artifact now, it's not longer a house, it's an "object".. the soul has been killed by the concrete mixer.

Any house is designed with a certain surrounding in mind.
The concrete violated the original design, think off a medieval castle.. inside the courtyard there was cobblestones..
Take those stones and do a concrete pour .. It would totally destroy the setting of the castle. Just like it totally destroyed the setting of Enzo's old house.

I cannot imagine that Enzo Ferrari would have looked at his childhood house with approval , i'm pretty sure the clash with the vision of the house in his memory would have pissed him off to no end.

RWebb,
Modernism and Bauhaus to me are the greatest achievements in design but there is a ton of great design happening today, think of Apple for instance.

Stijn, The concrete is overkill. The museum should have had Robert Irwin design the landscape.

Apple is just plain minimalism, nothing new under the sun.
Make it thin, white, with as little visible features possible other then the Apple logo. done.

If that's design, allow me to get ****faced and puke up my own design on canvas.

I have nothing against concrete, in fact, i like it a lot
I just don't like it as a way to dress up old houses

The greatest thing about minimalism is that after it's done, every child and every idiot will walk up to it and then say "I could do that".

I suppose that Yves Klein just paints canvasses blue

Yves Klein has done a lot more then his blue canvas..
His other work has much more merit.. I think he was taking the mickey with that blue canvas.
If any unknown artist at that time had produced a blue canvas, just months before Yves Klein had, they would have told that artist to Eff off and never show his face again...

EDIT, or how apparently he started off with his monochromes..
really does my head in how anyone can get famous with frigging blue canvasses..
I mean, once you've seen one monochrome bleu canvas, really , what's the point in watching another one?!?!

Attempting to explain modern art to a non-art person is like trying to explain to a mouse how a bird flies. It's a waste of time.

It's not for you and that's fine, just leave it at that.

Oh, i'm pretty sure that the lazy variation of modern art is not for me... just a blue canvas is not art in my view.

There are plenty of other things in modern art that i do find interesting. I just like a bit more effort then a paint roller and a bucket of paint.
