As a rule, when a player is out for an extended period of time they have a lot of rust to shake off before they get back to their former level of play.
Before he was hurt he showed a lot of talent and could have been one of the best. The unfortunate facts are that each time you get a concussion you become even more vulnerable to the next one (Savard is a perfect example). I don't think we will ever know how good he could have been. It should be interesting to see what happens the first time a Ranger puts a hard check on Sid. I expect that the rest of them will dog-pile the poor soul.
Prediction: the game will be attended by 60% fans, 40% reporters and Friday we will read or hear about how many times Sid blinks, coughs, or scratched his butt.
