So I went to the Car Show yesterday
So I went to the Atlanta Car Show yesterday. It was Senior Day so I got 50% off for both the tickets and parking. A $15 outing for two. Throw in a lunch at Mary Mac's and we were at $40 all inclusive for a day of entertainment. I remember when $40 would buy a lot more of that but it's all relative. I haven't been to a big city car show in years and was not only looking to have a chance to sit in and see closeup some new cars that I'm interested in (more of that later) but I remember from days past that the models that are hired to present the cars are a sight to see also.
I think the last big city car show I went to was in Chicago and I went in the evening and I was stunned by the number of people, the quality of the models and of course the cars. Like all of us here I have a passionate love affair with cars, especially Porsche. Needless to say Senior Day on a weekday afternoon doesn’t bring out the A Team of models but their were some sights to see. There seems to be a different mind set for the models. It used to be that they were there to be photographed, now some actually asked me not to film them. I was just snapping away with my Iphone. One fellow came up to me and said he was the agent representing the model and that I had to pay a license fee to take her picture. I told him that he was too late in that all of my pictures were instantly copyright protected ( a brazen lie I might ad) and he sort of stalked away. After that I asked each girl if she minded posing for a picture. One girl asked me why and I told her that I wanted her picture so that I could PhotoShop it and put on the internet to nite. She said OK and I clicked away. Hard to say which car was the coolest or which model was the prettiest. It turned out the the Fiat girls who asked me not to photo them because their manager said that they would be fired were the nicest looking and most fun to flirt with at the show and Fiat had, imho, the coolest car there - the Abarth, The new Audi R8 Spyder was very nice as was an Accura Sport Wagon and a new Lexus Sports Car. The Lambo's and Austin Martins were in a cordoned off area and they only let 4 people at a time enter. ****ty display just bare concrete, no signage, stuck in a corner, and no crowds because of the ropes cordoning off the area. You can get a lot closer and personal with anything exotic at the Caffeine and Octane event they have here on the first Sunday morning of each month. If you ever find yourself in the area on a Sunday morning it's a great venue for gearheads. Oh yes, did we find a car we were interested in? Nope not yet but we may narrow our search. We currently have Cayenne for a daily driver which is a great daily driver except for fuel economy. 18 mpg of Premium fuel adds up to $100 fill-ups more frequently then we would like. Didn’t find anything close in that department without making too many sacrifices for performance, comfort and safety. Everyone at the car show talked about next year models (car models you dimwits) were going to really shake up the industry. The much discussed $67K Hyundai looked like a pig with lipstick. Still can't take their 0 -60, faster than a Porsche 911 ad without some burn. Oh and Porsche, even though their headquarter (PCNA) is here in Atlanta didn’t have any cars or displays at all. Nice girl, nice car ![]() Nice Girl, crappy car. Sorry for the sideway view, get a strange message from Windows that I can't save a change can't make her standup ![]() Nice R8 ![]() Sure Photoshop and the Internet, I'm on it. ![]() Worlds smallest 4 seat car. The Scion XI ![]() Hot Chevy, Hot Chick ![]() ![]() Favorite car and best friend since 1967.
