To Live and Die in LA

Watched this classic again after not seeing it for a very, very long time.

Talk about a movie that holds up from an era when many didn't. Seriously one of my favorite films... and the last few scenes just stick it to ya.

How long til Hollywood makes a remake? I wouldn't be sad if they did- it is a movie most people have completely forgotten about. I would like to see someone in Hollywood with balls do a shot-for-shot remake, with some megabucks actors who can actually act and an edgy score by someone like Trent Reznor (Social Network)... Just update a few things, keep the story the same, and bam you got a $250 million summer blockbuster....

"How long til Hollywood makes a remake? "

Funny, I was actually thinking about that today...then thought that the music was just right and that can't be redone.

"You're beautiful"

"you're working for me now"

This movie shaped my impression of cool when I was 9.

I wish more movies had balls to make statements with the story as in in To live and Die... when William Petersen's character Chance takes a shotgun to the head in the locker room at the end of the movie... it is so instantaneous and in your face, the first time you watch it you are stunned for a good minute or two afterwards.... this is the main character for christ's sake.

it is truly a story where there are no real clear 'good guys' by the end. Similar filmmaking genius to Dog Day Afternoon

Alas, I agree with you. I'm no film buff or expert, but I do work on movies. The last good movies I worked on were Pirates 1&II, I thought Pirates III was just weird and Pirates IV was just OK. I liked No Country for Old Men. The National Treasure movies were OK but not memorable. On March 9 we have John Carter coming out, and I'm curious to see people's reaction. I'm currently working on The Lone Ranger which will come out in a year or so.

Love this film, it's seedy, dark, and test the boundaries. I wouldn't call myself a "Wang Chung" fan however they did a fantastic job on the films score. Oh and the Ferrari was nice as well.

With freeway traffic moving the wrong direction for effect no less.

"Mr. Jessup says he's from Palm Springs but he doesn't even have a tan."

Lest we forget an early John Turturro role..."Don't forget about me"

This is one of the movies I remember from this period of time. Glad it has held up well and will check it out again.

I agree - one of my favourites. Love the characters, the actors, music score, and movie theme. Well put together. Might have been the first movie I saw with Willem Dafoe.

I hope it is NOT remade. I've never seen a remake yet that did justice to the original. That'd be like saying let's remake "Bullitt", "The French Connection", "Bladerunner", "The Great Escape", "Raiders of the Lost Ark", "The Dirty Dozen", or "Ronin".

Nah...let's not and say we did....

Great flick, unbelievable car chase! William Peterson stands out. I hope it is not remade.

Keep your eye open for a young, cute Daphne (from "Frasier").

Edit: I just watched the youtube link and saw two 914s..

Thanks for reminding me, I'll have to look for it again. Is this the movie with the silver 69 Z-28 in it?

problem as a remake is there is no shocking ending. Best ending of any movie ever made.

If you have "Wang Chung" scoring your film, you know you have an 80's film. I actually liked Wang Chung.

Manhunter was the reason I rewatched To Live and Die- my girlfriend likes William P from watching CSI and reccomended we watch Manhunter. I hadn't seen it but when I looked it up on IMDB I saw To Live and Die right under it and that was that, we were watching it.

pretty much par for the course - haven't seen the movie in a long while thought "Hey I'll go over to Netflix and start watching it"

Then I am reminded yet again they hardly ever stream anything I want to watch..... Again I question myself as to why I keep giving them my money

You got that right! When the conversation turns to car chases in films, I'll always mention this as one of the best. Most people have never heard of it and will drone on about Bullitt. This chase is WAY better than the one in Bullitt. Great film.
