WHY-PELICAN PARTS and not another name?

I'm just curious why is this website named what it is.
Why is it not named after some auto or auto part?

What's the deal?

If Wayne told ya, he'd have to kill ya...

He posted on this subject a few years ago. Short story is that he saw a pelican at the coast.

If you search, I am sure you can find it.

It's unique.

How many variations of "euro auto performance" places are there on the net presently?

Some say, the Pelican is the fastest known bird in the entire world (hp per ton). And because they're amphibious and rhyme with Republican, that even Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher were Pelicanites.

All we know is that Pelican Parts for Porsche is the pinnacle of properly produced parts sites and is on par with any other prolific posting site.

This comes up for discussion every once in a while. You could search for the previous thread...

If I remember correctly, it was simply that a Pelican flew by when the co-founders were near the beach.

Regardless of how he came up with it, Pelican Parts is an excellent name.

Distinctive, memorable, and everyone knows how to spell it. Kind of like "Elephant Racing"

Plus, you can ambush unsuspecting, newly-spotted Porsche drivers with, "Hey, are you a Pelican?".

ok, as a follow on question. how come the stickers only have 3/4's of the 911 showing and not the whole car?

It sure is a good thing an albatross did not fly by instead. ;)

Even worse, a Hairy woodpecker!

Because "Sharks with friggin lasers on their heads parts" was already taken.

azasadny 03-19-2012 08:38 AM

Kind of like... "Are you a turtle"?...

id10t 03-19-2012 08:58 AM

What about a swallow? African or European, laden or unladen....

Have you ever heard the joke about how the Indian Chief names the new babies born on the reservation? Watch "Silkwood" if necessary.

legion 03-19-2012 10:55 AM

Because "Seagull Parts" sounds much different.

billybek 03-19-2012 12:42 PM

"You got Pelican Parts in my Porsche."
"You got Porsche parts in my pelican."

herr_oberst 03-19-2012 02:04 PM

Because "Starbucks" was taken.
