Ebay Class Action Settlement Check Bounced !!
............................so I get this letter awhile back Seems that there was a court settlement recently stemming from a class-action where Joe Blow sued ebay over a private dealer sold vehicle. Something where Ebay was held liable for disclosure, or something the dealership left out when posting.
Since I do a lot of Ebay'ing, especially the motors side, I was on the "list"of 'potential' Ebayers that possibly would receive a portion of this settlement. I signed the letter sent it back to the law firm and promptly forgot. Well two weeks ago I get (guess what) a bonified check form that firm for the amazing sum of................................................ ........................a whopping $4.07!! Initially I just laughed it off and was going to toss it in the trash. My wife persuaded me to deposit in my checking account, because it was after all...............................money. Last friday, I get this statement looking envelope from my bank. I open it the check bounced!! Reason was the account is closed! Bounced check fee? $15.00 ALL class action crap is a scam. The law firms get most all the recovery and the litigants nothing. See above:( |
The check bounced? That's just stupid.
Those checks usually have a very limited time where they can be deposited. How long did you wait?
Sue them for the $15! :)
Seriously, I would look them up on the internet and call their office. "You pay for the bounced check fee and send me a valid check or I am going to small claims court!" and bet you would get taken care of. |
IIRC the check had what 30 days to be deposited
My check was for $0.74. It has more value in comedy than the money.
I also have some government checks for less than 10 cents. I have also not cashed those. |
The check was deposited 4 days later.....................If I didn't have so much stuff going on right now I would have called them on it. Oh well..............good enough for a laugh or two
Quick- start your own class action against Ebay and their law firm so you can be the winner of this class action suit.
Or better yet, go to law school. I think that's the moral of most of these stories.
Maybe you used one too many ..................................... where you are supposed to ..................................... sign it.
wonder how much the attorney's bill was ???
you were supposed to use PayPal
Mine bounced too. $3.74. Admittedly, it sat on my desk for several weeks before I deposited it with some other checks, but didn't notice an expiration on the check. I'm guessing the law firm gets the money if not claimed within minutes of the post-mark.
Love those guys. |

filed mine in the trash... where it belonged.

I'm happy to hear this, actually. Just as things like Netscape go away, someday eBay will fall as NS did. This only helps that process along. I suppose there are still people using dial up and AOL. eBay will be like that in a few years with only a few trailer park dwellers selling dirty rugs and Melmac to each other.
I was an Ebay fanatic, both on the buying and selling side. Now I hardly use Ebay any more. And it isn't just because I stopped fixing up classic cars. Paypal really sucks (they stiffed me out of several hundred bucks a few years back) and they practically force you to use them. Only if I can't possibly find it elsewhere do I use Ebay. I hope they go down and someone else starts an auction site catering to private sellers.

I used to sell on eBay a lot, but will not do so again because of the their and PayPal's exhorbitant fees (and now PayPal's hold policy). I'll only take PayPal now as a gift so as to avoid the fees and hold time. If I were to list something on eBay, it'd only be when they have a no listing fee promotion. Then I'd do it for an insane opening bid so I'd get some messages from interested parties and then I'd complete the deal outside of eBay. Eff them. I love buying there, but only because others are paying the fees.

My check for 0.04 is stuck to the file cabinet at work with two magnets. It's quite a conversation piece!
