Haven't heard of them, but I'd want a lot more and hi-res. photos and records before making that trip. I like the Euro bumpers, but this car has had a lot of work done to it. Maybe it was all just to spiff it up, but I suspect the "upgrades" were done during repair jobs. Why were the calipers redone? C4Ss came with Big Reds with "PORSCHE" on them, not "C4S." 19's would make this a very stiff ride too. I have 18's and mine is pretty stiff. K&N filter means nothing, is totally obvious from the engine shot, yet they make it prominent in the description while leaving out other, more desireable features. Why no underside shots? It has headers? How does that pass NJ smog? Factory litronics on these cars were a $2500 option at the time. So does it have HID's or factory litronics? Might be a killer ride, but whoever wrote that listing doesn't know the first thing about 993's.

You'd consider paying $46,000 for that?

Car looks to have changed hands a lot.

If the first title change was a lease I'd wonder about actual mileage being accurate.

If anyone pays $46K for that, they have been *guzzling* the 993 kool aid

For that money, you could buy a 2001-2004 996 Twin Turbo with equal/fewer miles, equal/better condition, equal/fewer owners, equal/better provenance, from an equal/better seller.

The 996 Twin Turbo is more car in every way. Hands down.

Unless you are a collector, and simply have to have an example of the last-year air-cooled 993 to round out your stable.

That might be true and I generally agree, but we all have different taste. If you gotta have a 993, nothing else will do. I'll admit I dont follow the C4s market, is ~46k in the ballpark?

The prices I have seen around rennlist and dealers, $46 k is a little high but not much. I dont like the 996 style as much, so even if it is a better performer, it is not a car that I would be interested in. I would prefer a bone stock c4s that hasnt been messed with, but there do not seem to be many of those around.

I bought my 944 from them 20 yrs ago.

They are right up the road, about 5 mins from me. They have a pretty good reputation. Always seem to have high quality cars.

Yes, I know. People like the 993. So much so that they overpay for them. Especially ones with low miles.

For example (and there are dozens), here's one local to me:
'95 Porsche 993 C4S

1995 Porsche 993 C4S
New H&R coilovers
Kinesis 3pc wheels
Sport exhaust
RSR/GT splitter and tail
New front brakes
Newer clutch and sport flywheel
99K miles
$26K obo

But people would rather pay a $20,000 premium for 60K less miles, on a 17 year old car where either could (and would) break tomorrow with similar odds.

Emotion > logic.....always has, always will

They didn't make a C4S in 1995, so that ad is suspect. One look at the engine intake would tell us when it was really made. Non-varioram would be '95, which wouldn't be a C4S. V-ram intake with no "varioram" script on it would be '96 (which is a difficult year to chip). '97s have "varioram" script on the intake. Not sure if they made them in '98, but most were turbos and cabs that year, IIRC.

I called the owner and he says he has the letter from Porsche documenting the car. It is a 1995. And it is a C4S.

I don't know anything more than that.

Curious though

That's fine, but there is no mechanical or cosmetic difference between the 4Ss of any year. Only the 95s (which aren't Ss) are a bit different due to the basket handle third brake light and non-V-ram engine.

If I had it to do over again, I'd get a 95, as they're easier to chip. My non-S looks identical to one because it's lowered and I put Big Reds on it. I have the decklid debadged. But my C2S split grill gives away the fact that it can't be a 4S and Big Reds give away the fact that it can't be a 2S unless, of course, I modded it, which I did.

I would say it's then a grey market car, but the US bumpers debunk that. The only thing the Ss had over the non-Ss are the Big Reds and (obviously AWD) on the 4s and the split grill on the 2s. Both had somewhat flared fenders and most of the ones I've been in had the full leather dash and seats. Not sure if that was an option or standard. But it's pretty easy to make a non-S look identical to an S.

Yes, they are more. If they were $10K more would that be reasonable? $20K more? $30K more?

My larger point, not to single you out (it's your money, buy what you want), is that people focus on the exact year/model/colors/miles they "want" and overlook the other choices in the marketplace. They just pay what the market bares within their sometimes narrow focus.

$46K buys a 2006 997 C4S with the same miles, for crying out loud

I thought the S body cars were the same body (not bumpers) as the turbo?
