Front License Plate ticket question -California

Just came home from work, and there was a ticket on the windshield of my Ghia for "Failure to display both plates." The car is a 1971, has its original blue plate in the rear. it didnt come with a front plate originally. Also, the front bumper has no place to mount a front plate...it's all original.

It's only a $43 ticket, but still irritating.

Contestable?

You will have to go to CHP and somehow get the front plate on there so they can sign it off. It happened to me last year. It was sitting in front of my house, on the street and meter maid gave me a ticket. This was my S2000. I think if the plate sits on the dash and up against the windshield is fine.

California requires 2 plates. Doesn't matter if there were no original mounting holes. Other states have provisions for this.

I went through this a few months ago.

Nope. Has to be mounted on the front.

You can order replica plates now. It's legal. Example site..

Maybe order a reproduction plate online? 80% of the cars in my area have no front plate. I've never had one on my cars in the past 20 years and never been hassled. Bad luck, dude. Don't ever park that thing at LAX, you'll get dinged for sure.

seems ridiculous that the car is allowed to be titled and registered with one plate...yet not allowed to be on the street with one plate.

The car originally had 2 plates. When you register a new car for the first time, DMV sends 2 out. Someone just never bothered to install it on the front since there was no way to do so and lost it.

Some people might break the law and repaint the reflective plate a deeper shade of white known as "blue"

Some Dick-head at 3m sent the State of California a letter saying how unsafe our yellow, Black, & Blue plates are and that all should be removed from our vintage cars due to the risk that they present.

I try to avoid 3m when I can.

The more that I live here the less that I feel like a Citizen and more like a Subject of California.

No automated speed traps here. It's illegal to use photo-radar (other than red light cams - which were shut down recently) in California.
