is there a market for vintage outboards?e

Cleaning out some of Moms garage.... there is an old evinrude, looks to be from the 50's and in very good cosmetic condition. No use for it. Is there a market for these?

I have an old 1947 Evinrude Sportsman 2hp outboard I am restoring. I looking for a 12' boat to install it on to use to take my 11 year old son out fishing on. The outboard belonged to my late father-in-law's grandfather. The great grandfather-in-law use to send my FIL out in the boat at age 8 for a full days fishing.

I do know they are hard to get parts for.

Post some photos. Anything with a cool vintage design has a market.

There is some . Look on CL and ebay . There are clubs and collectors that love old outboards.

I've still got three I need to sell . 2 Martins and an ole Johnson (40's era).

The Antique Outboard Motor Club Website - AOMCI.org

Don't scrap it .

Does your outboard have a built-in gas tank or prongs on front for fuel lines ?

Heh.....one of the better things about modern day life are ouboards that you can actually start and depend on to keep running. I spent years cussing out the GD things when all I really wanted to do was go fishing.

I suppose there is some value in the thing from a period mechanical design sort of thing to someone. To me the sumbytch would be good for target practice.

Pay no attention to me. My thoughts about many "classic cars" are "It was a POS when it was new and it's a POS now."

Can't help with the answer to your question, but I agree with the sentiment that the last place I want to be with a 70 year old engine is out on the water.

I'm getting too old to swim or row for a few miles.

I take a modern fuel injected motor any day over something with a carburetor and a rope.

They are objects of curiosity. Perfect condition will bring a few hundred.

My buddy collects Waterman boat motors as Waterman lived in Grosse Ile,MI and invented the outboard motor and my buddy lives on the same island. They are very collectible and extremely expensive!!
