iPhone App frustrations... MLB at Bat
I know we have some baseball fans on this forum and I'm certainly one. For the past few years I've bought the upgraded version of this app from iTunes but this year you just get MLB at Bat Lite from iTunes and upgrade from within the app. Sounds ok..
I installed the lite version...it's free...but wanted to upgrade for $15 to the paid version so I could listen live to games. Went to purchase and got a message saying..."You must first purchase the app that this upgrade is for"... I think ? I already have it installed...MLB at Bat Lite. I called MLB and they told me to purchase from iTunes but you can't. Anyone else have this issue. ??? What am I missing ? |
I have at bat on my iPhone. I've had it in years past as well and I think my only issue was that they did not recognize my old account. I think it is an entirely different program this year, so you have to download the new app, rather than trying to upgrade from the old app.

I did download the new at Bat Lite from iTunes but it won't let me upgrade...says I need to install the app that the upgrade is for. I did that but I guess it does not recognize that. I even called MLB...no help there.

I don't see an At Bat Lite on the store.
I see one app that is a free install that on 1st launch gives you the subscription options and the Go to Lite option. Once in Lite it's kind of counter intuitive to get back to a subscription option. Hitting the headphone top right seems to bring the subscription option back. I'm not going to go thru the process cause frankly I don't really care for baseball all that much. I would try deleting the app, download/install again and subscribe without accessing Lite |
I have downloaded that app in the iTunes store. Yes, it gives you the option to buy the upgrade BUT when I try to upgrade it says 'You must first buy the app that this upgrade if for'. It's the app I downloaded for free....the only one offered on the iTunes app store.

I have tried over and over and can't seem to upgrade. MLB.com phone help was clueless. I guess I have to go to an Apple store and see what they say...
Maybe some guys have figgered this out since I first posted this thread...if so will you please fill me in .. |
I use the app everyday.
Love MLB TV Not sure why you have an issue. Go on MLB.com and purchase season pass to view games - monthly or yearly options available. Delete app. Reboot phone. Download app again and buy when prompted. Use your user/pass that you created on MLB website. Should work fine. Every year quality improves. I get better video quality on iPhone and iPad then PC. If you want to watch blacked out games you need to jailbreak and use an app called LocationHolic to trick the MLB app into believing you are in another location. I have heard some use Mexico as their location and every game is available. |
What iOS are you using?
|
Thanks for the added suggestions. I will delete and re-boot. That may help. I just updated my iPhone 4 to the latest version of OS...5.1.1 I think.. I always have gotten a message saying I can't upgrade until I 'buy' the app the upgrade is intended for. I love baseball and loved this app last year but then you got the upgrade from iTunes.
|
I just downloaded MLB At Bat, and it was necessary to go to MLB.com, click on register, fill out the info to have an account. Then back to iTunes and Bob's your Uncle!
|
Tom,
Just did what you said and it still won't let me buy it. ???? Guess I'll just live without it. |
Mark,
Take a break, ponder the problem (yes, some more!), and try again. It really is a nice app. Good Luck! |
Will do Tom. I had it last year and really loved it
|
I was able to "upgrade" to it today with no issues, but I started with the free download (not "Lite"). Maybe that is the issue?

Mike: That's what I started with, then went to MLB.com and registered but still am not able to buy the upgrade. Curiously, when it denies my purchase it says I'm buying from iTunes. I thought we were buying from MLB ....???
|
Are you buying the package from MLB or just registering?
You pay MLB for the monthly or yearly service. Then you pay iTunes for the app that allows you to use the service. |
The iTunes app is free..
|
PM me if you want to get this working. It's been 2 months since you first posted with the issue.
