Anyone have experience with weather stations that are internet connected?
 

Wondering if there are any decent-qualiy stations that work on Wi-Fi and log data to a webpage that I can view anywhere? I see a few $150 models on Amazon, but with our 100 mph winds, I can't imagine something like that lasting very long.

The holy grail is usually the Davis Vantage Pro which is going to run you between $500 and $1000 depending upon options. I assume you aren't that interested in the weather.

A common entry level is something like the Oregon Scientific WMR100 or WMR200.

I think that for a decent entry level setup you're probably looking at $200-300, but maybe some of the $100-200 stuff is good enough. It's been a while since I perused.

I have one from Costco that has done just fine for 2-3 years. Its a "Weather Direct" unit and gives me a 3 day forcast and current temps.

motion, how often do the winds get that fast? It's something I'm going to have to deal with in the near future, when we transition completely to our western outpost.

Campbell Scientific makes a number of suitable items for this, but is quite expensive -- they cater to scientists, engineers, etc.

So does Davis, but they have some hobbyist stuff also.

for high wind speeds, you could use a series of optical detectors wired to the internet that read from this sensor:

We had 80-90 here last week, and 110 back in 2007. That one blew down tens of thousands of trees. I would say every winter, we have at least one 80mph event. Some parts of the state are windier than others. We get hit because we're right at the base of the Beartooth mountains. Livingston blows 50-60 like, all the time. What part of the state will you be dealing with?

Oh, your in Montana! I keep thinking you live in SoCal. I was assuming the Santa Anna winds were the issue.

I'm in OC, too, but at the beach we get maybe 15mph on a bad day :)
