RIP, Mr. Scruggs.

Enjoyed his and Lester Flatt's music. The Bluegrass harmony is timeless.

RIP

Always enjoyed his music!

RIP old friend...

R.I.P. indeed. I celebrated a moment of silence yesterday when I heard the sad news, then picked up my banjer and picked my way through "Foggy Mountain Breakdown."

cashflyer 03-29-2012 08:17 AM

Well, an otherwise good day is now ruined.

We have a 5-string in the house as well. It's funny because I got caught up in the 70's banjo thing that was driven by Deliverance. My son got into it because of Mumford and Sons. You can't keep a good banjo down...

god speed and Earl rocked.

Jim Richards 03-29-2012 09:50 AM

Your inspiration was Deliverance?

herr_oberst 03-29-2012 11:09 AM

Dang. Sad news indeed.

RIP, Mr Scruggs.

As an aside - was that Steve Martin I spotted in the video? Probably not - probably have a caffeine derived hallucination...

squeal like a pig for me!

My wife and I were fortunate enough to see LF & ES in Gatlinburg in '77... man, what a tour de force.

I was glad to see they let Russell take a solo in that video... until that happened, he looked more like a wax museum version of himself.

I wish they had let the bass player take one... what is up with that, and who was it?

Edit: Is that Mike Campbell at :50?

Yes amongst that cast of thousands was Steve. He is a VERY good banjo player.
