Rock & Roll Hall of Fame rant

Was listening to the radio while driving the other day & the dj said he was looking to see when the Moody Blues were inducted. They haven't been. I couldn't believe it. Are you friggin' kidding me? I started looking into things... Chicago, Three Dog Night, to name a few aren't in either. But, Abba, Run DMC, & Blondie are????????
So I looked up the criteria. Quote from the RRHOF...

We shall consider factors such as an artist's musical influence on other artists, length and depth of career and the body of work, innovation and superiority in style and technique, but musical excellence shall be the essential qualification of induction.

Unbe*******lieveable. I know Jann Wenner runs the show but what the hell does he have against these & other more worthy artists?? What a complete tool. It will be a cold day in hell before I visit the place, (and I was looking forward to it).

Rant over, carry on

Motorhead is not in there and until they are, RRHF is a piece of disrespectful crap. that said, the ramones and finally the stooges are in there which is great, and, ive been to the HOF about 5 times and enjoyed it every time. standing in front of joe strummer's rusted telecaster gave me the chills as did many other things.

emcon5 03-31-2012 09:11 AM

No Rush, no credibility.

ramonesfreak 03-31-2012 09:12 AM

At this point the RRHOF has become a total joke and I consider it more of an honor to be left out of it. Rush is still recording, touring and packing arenas. Only the Beatles and Stones have more gold and platinum albums. This kills any credibility the HOF once had. Forget them. Bands are better off without it. Double props for those bands who've also never been on the cover of Rolling Stone.

It should be called the "Pop Music Hall of Fame"... it's not rock and roll....

jcommin 03-31-2012 01:24 PM

I'm with you on this Madonna, Abba - I don't think so.

Oh Haha 03-31-2012 01:26 PM

I think Gene Simmons said last week about KISS not being inducted. "We'll just buy it and fire everybody".

While not the greatest band, KISS certainly carved out a unique place in RR history.

Totally agree, they have no direction.

Kiss is about as relevant as Madonna, popular but insignificant.

There isn't anyone in the RRHF that has EVER played a crowd this big... (You can literally see the fear in Gene's face lol)

It's in Cleveland.

Nuff said.

Didn't we already go through a thread like this a year or two ago?

I visited the place once. Summer of 2003.
They had a few really interesting exhibits. One was the mixing desk from Sun records' orginal studio.

Another was a local/artists from Ohio one. That was cool bc you had Phil Ochs, The Dead Boys, Pagans (2 cleveland punk bands of the 70s-80s), Devo, Guided By Voices (one of my all time favorite bands) etc.

And they also had a alt-rock/punk rock exhibit that was pretty cool. In one display was Handsome Dick Manitoba's (of The Dictators) wrestling outfit he wore on the cover of the 1st album, the actual bass Paul Simonon smashed on the cover of London Calling, Johnny Thunders' (of the New York Dolls) beat up yellow Les Paul junior, among others.

Upstairs, they were in the process of moving stuff around and one of Pete Townshend's Gibson SGs was just sitting there on a stand. I couldn't help it. I strummed a chord.

I will not rest until Tony Orlando & Dawn are enshrined.

VINMAN 04-02-2012 12:23 PM

The place and the people who choose the inductees are a total joke.

If you only knew how it got there you would not believe it. I was working for Warner Bros. records at the time and in Cleveland, but even to this day i am sworn to secrecy.
