iPhone GPS and Internet Tracking

I'm riding the MS150 from Houston to Austin again this year and I want my wife to be able to track my progress online.

What is out there that I can install on my iPhone that will plot a couse and be able to be followed with a laptop?

She can track your location with the "Find the find my phone" app or at me.com She just needs your iTunes user name and password. I doubt she wants to see you every move so she can just check in when she is curious.

how about mapmyrun or something like that? I don't know if it'll do instantaneous.

The spot. We use it when sailing. I think it's a bit expensive though.

You can even make the phone play a sound or she can send you a message when she hits find.

Yea, the bad news is she could remotely wipe the phone or lock it.

Find my friends would also work simply for tracking. Doesn't cover the mapping a route portion though.

Yeah, and she can log in and see where I am anytime.

Change your password after.

And honestly you don't strike me as the kind of guy who gives his wife a reason to spy on him.

Look into MotionX GPS. It's an excellent full featured back-country (no driving directions) GPS app.

One of its many features is location sharing via email. You set the schedule (say once an hour) and the recipient email(s). You can also enable/disable it at will. It will send an email on schedule with a clickable link showing your exact lat/long. The back-country use for this is if you don't return from your trek, someone will have your last location.

It will also record tracks. You can then upload tracks to the net, load into Google Earth (this is cool for skiing), upload to facebook, etc.

Remember that if you run ANY GPS app in the background, it can eat through your battery quickly.
