Remy for short.

too wierd?

all opinions appreciated.

thanks.

javier 04-29-2002 08:30 PM

hey, the name thing is kinda personal...

Planter91C2 04-30-2002 04:42 AM

i'm not sure of it. wouldn't he be made fun of as a kid?

javier, i'm sure you would like the name 'James'...

Z-man 04-30-2002 05:26 AM

Remington sounds cool. But kids may think he's a rich snot, and make fun of him.

What do I know, with a name like ZOLTAN?

TedSlick 04-30-2002 08:01 AM

don't do it

welp, you said "all opinions appreciated":

I think he may hate you for it! Not literally, but I know from personal lifetime experience that such a name can haunt. My parents had the brilliant idea to call me 'Theodore' (gag!). Have always shunned that name and gone by 'Ted', but the double name thing gets confusing throughout life (given name vs. common name). I'd stick to something one or two syllables, more simple. Tell him later you considered 'Remington' and he will thank you for reconsidering!:D

If you go ahead with it, I bet he'll invent something like 'Remo' before he reaches teen years, rather than 'Remy'.

Planter91C2 04-30-2002 09:15 AM

thanks.

i have a month for decision making.

i'm trying to think of something that is not to wierd, but not too common. it is very hard.

Remington

Whenever I think of the word Remington I think of Guns, and or electric shavers and typewriters. I think the name is TRENDY. Why not just pick one of his Grandfathers names. I too am a Theodore and don't especially like it, and have gone by Ted since the 4th Grade. Before that it was TABS..... my initials with an S added.

what about the name Pat, later, when things change, the name can stay the same.

Remember, you ASKED for opinions, you are a sore looser if you dont like the replys.

haha p0r2chby, you are bringing back memories of all the problems you caused on the 944 board.

"what about the name Pat, later, when things change, the name can stay the same."

too much information about your current lifestyle...

Ted Stringer 05-01-2002 08:34 AM

TedSlick, what is wrong with Theodore? Actually it means "Gift of God". Actually that was only part of the reason that I got that name, the other part was I was named after my great-great-grandfather, who was also Theodore Stringer.

Adam 05-01-2002 03:52 PM

Planter,

What about Jackson? I've always thought that was a cool name.

TedSlick 05-01-2002 06:50 PM

Hey, other 'Ted'. If you like 'Theodore' so much, why do you go by 'Ted'??? LOL

Lemme see...how 'bout this peer-tease when I was younger:
Instead of 'Theodore', it was 'The-Odor', preceded by "Do you smell something? Oh, it's just The-odor." LOL...pretty clever, actually. Gotta hand it to the guy who thought of that one. And, of course, I retaliated in kind. :p

Which reminds me, I gotta give my parents a hard time about that again next I see 'em...

Remington makes me think of guns and ammunition....

Brian993 05-04-2002 02:10 PM

Remington sounds like a yuppy geek name for sure.

hoff944 05-06-2002 11:09 PM

You're not into guns are you? Is that why you are calling him Remmington?

Planter91C2 05-07-2002 07:43 AM

i haven't decided yet, i have a couple weeks yet. i do hunt with a remington shotgun.

i'm looking for ideas on a boy's name that is cool, not to wierd, not to common, and strong sounding.

hoff944 05-07-2002 08:50 AM

How about Thor or Lothar? SmileWavy

We have a 2yr old and during the name decision process ( we did not find out the sex until birth ) my wife told me she already had a name if it is a boy. My first thought was " Hey, don't I get more of a say in the male name choice?". But after hearing it and giving it some serious thought I realized that it was a good strong name. We had a name for a girl as well but when my son was born, I went out and told the family that Sam had arrived.:D

Samuel Rush Davis. The middle name is for wife's Grandfather. In a time when names like Chandler or others that may be considered part of the snob set, I think a straightforward strong name is refreshing.

Please let us know how it goes and what name you go with.
