Tires for SUV
We need tires for our 2000 Durango which are 235/75/15. We had summer Kumho tires on it in the California desert and loved them but after moving to Wisconsin have used all seasons. We bought winter tires last fall (it's 2wd) so I am looking for a similar set of summer tires but the model we had before aren't available any longer. Looking for a decent handling tire that has good treadwear and fuel mileage. When going from summer to all season our average dropped 1.5mpg. The Bridgstone Dueler Revo 2 looks like a decent tire but ours came with the old Duelers and they sucked but I have heard the new ones don't have the same rolling on granite issues. I like the Michelin tires as well but the Kumho's we bought we $50 less per tire than the Michelins at the time.
Both the Michelin and Bridgestone are running close to $150 each around here so it would be nice to save a little but I don't mind paying for them if they are that much better tires. Heck, I bought goodyear Bluestreaks for the Cobra because they are soo much better than any of the street tires available. Opinions, I know you guys have them? ![]()

I have had Toyo Tires on several Land Rovers and been happy. Also liked the Pirelli Scorpions.

What's wrong with just buying all-season Kumhos?

I don't have a lot of choice in this area. Really, I don't know what would be wrong with the all seasons. I liked the way the summer tires drove, rode and handled. The first gen Durango isn't really a large lumbering SUV and does fairly well on the back roads and off ramps when I do end up driving it so I am looking for a tire that won't roll over on itself.
The nearest place for the Scorpions is 80 miles away and I don't see my size at Tire Rack. ![]()

Anyway, I like the Kumho Solus KR21.... in this size they are an extra load (XL) and have a 680 treadwear rating (85K mile warranty), great in snow, nice ride, quiet, and under $100.
What more do you need?

Southwest Wisconsin. Close to Dubuque Iowa. We have Blizzaks for the snow so I don't really need that. Just looking for a good performing tire. I think there is a couple places in Dubuque that carry Kumho all season tires. I will check them out.

Tires that are good in snow also tend to be great in the rain and good at clearing dirt/mud.
You have to decide what attributes are important to you. I have wholesale access to almost a hundred different tires in that size, ranging from $74 each to $184 each. Car, truck, different load range, passenger or light truck tires, whitewalls, white letters, etc, etc.... But for an overall tire, the KR21s are great. You'll do much better ordering though the Tire Rack, and that's what I'd recommend

On our Audi, I just replaced all 4 Goodyear LS for the Pirelli Scorpian Verdes. The Pirellis are very new, so of course they are great. Not as much lip protection as the GYrs. So far they are much quieter, but again, I'd rather wait until I put 10k miles on them before saying anything. They scored the highest in the group on Tirerack. I heard these tires will be standard on the new Cayennes.

I'm in the process for getting tires for a 2002 Highlander. I was looking at Continental CrossContact LX20. Thoughts on it? I didn't see the Kumho KR21 on the site for the where I was planning on going. I see a KL21.

My wife's LR Discovery wears Yokohama Geolander AT-S. Great tire on & off the road and long lasting - we have 40K miles on them and they are not quite done yet. Tire rack sells them in your size for ~ $120/per.

Two of the local places were within a few dollars of Tire Rack if you include shipping so I would have them put them on if they have them. Otherwise Platteville hs a place that sells and installs for Tire Rack but you still pay shipping.

KR21 is a standard all season 85K mile tire in typical passenger car sizes, and taller sidewalls (60-75)

I had good luck with BFG long trail tires on my old Tahoe. They would last around 3-4 years. Pretty reasonable price wise.
My 06 Tahoe has Michelin Latitude tires. Smooth ride but not cheap. I use them in the summer only. For winter tires I have Bridgestone Dueller A/T tires. Good in the snow.

when i got my 4x4 tacoma the tires were bald. bad. we drove it back from LA on pins and needles. i kept checking for cell phone service just in case we had to call AAA. lucky we got home. i went to work the next day, and my wife thought she would be sweet and buy me some new tires. she got Michelin X-radials. (LTX?). i spent a little bit of time searching new tires, and when i got home i was ready for some all terrains..
i immediately saw the new all season tires. was i disappointed? yes? i wanted something a tad more aggressive. but my wife was so cool getting me tires so i could be safe. it was hard faulting her for wanting to surprise me. now i wanted to hate those timid looking "street" tires. i drove them to AZ and 4x4 up some of the gnarliest trails. i never got stuck, never got out of control. desert rains showed up on our last day, and i plowed thru some decent muddy, flowing streams...then i got 23 mpg on the way home. I LOVE THOSE TIRES!! they are silent, i get kickass mileage, they are lasting very long..(40k and counting), they perform GREAT in rain and snow. they make a suitable occasional off roading tire, and handle some really big stuff better suited to a mud-terrain. i dont know how much she paid. she got them from costco.

I have a Suburban with Yokohama Geolanders. Great wet weather traction and surprisingly quiet. I highly recommend this tire.
