Recommendation inexpensive street driving gloves?

No... I don't think I'm joe cool or speed racer...

How ever I am:

Middle age + blond/blue eyed + living in sunny SoCal + drive a convertible sports car = high risk for skin cancer.

So I am looking for some light comfortable gloves to wear when driving with the top down (the car that is).

I am leaning toward the Mechanix tactical gloves in the $15-$30 range.

Just for puttering around town, don't need nomex and all that, prefer something light that breaths (and not black) so my hands keep cool/don't sweat.

Thanks in advance!

Look into an Alpinestar or Oakley glove. Usually used for dirtbikes but they do/feel/perform exactly what your describing.

Similar price range.

I have a pair of stringback gloves that I got from Moss Motors a few years ago that I like. I don't recall them being expensive.

I shop at Moss... a quick look and $76... that puts me in "Italian calfskin" territory.
Plus the whole idea is to keep the sun off my hands and I think the stringback design defeats that purpose.

Looking on eBay, Alpinestar is good but also a little pricey... Oakley has some good stuff and they linked me to Fox.

Only problem with Oakley/Fox/Mechanix is they are slathered with logos... I will probably just have to learn to live with the design.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I've used golf gloves in the past. They work great.

Those are mainly for equipment operators, but with the closed back and excellent price, I'd be looking at those. When I raced karts, I looked for thin, unlined gloves at the Harley shop. I could usually come up with some nice fitting closed back gloves for 30 bucks. Never had a problem with sweating and they lasted a couple of years. That's saying a lot given how you use your hands and arms in a kart.

Like these which are not expensive:

Never worn a pair of gloves for driving a car in my life, but I've used Saranac tackified football receiver gloves for aviation-related entertainment. $14 or so, any color you like, so long as it's black or white. Lots of feel, great grip. Can get them with either an all leather or a mesh back (latter is great for really hot weather).

They're actually better - and a lot tougher/more hard-wearing - than the aircrew gloves I used to use before that, that would run about 4-5 times as much...

Wait. This is for the Miata? I'd go with an elbow length evening glove, black or white, whatever matches your outfit.

Hey, somebody had to say it!
