^Nice bike dude! Love the white saddle and grips.

Looks pretty, but I wouldn't do it again. My white saddle looks gross. It will be replaced by a black one before long....

sure the whole point of spokes is flex
remember spokes angle out to increase the effect by crossing other spokes

I have been riding a long time and I agree that the new suspension shocks and disc brakes are the major improvements. I am on the fence on the 29er though. Because the wheels are so big you can get over thing easier and have more rolling momentum so to speak. However if you are on a tight trail they can't be tossed around as much as a 26er. Here are my 2 rigs upgraded over the years.

My Zaskar has a 2x9 gear set, disc brakes and the most comfy Fox shock on the front. I use this bike in the mud and for really rough stuff. The front tire is a 2.6" so it has a lot of the same advantages as a 29" front wheels. The second bike is an old steel frame Talera I have had since I was 18. It is a 1x10 drive with an ultra light set of wheels and shock. Total the bike is just a smidge under 24 pounds. On a hard packed tight single track this bike is fast. I have a couple full suspension bikes in pieces right now, but don't use them on the local trails much. They are comfortable to ride, but just suck for climbing even locked out. Downhill is where they excel.

What is this "Pedal" thing you're all taking about?

Guess I'd rather be "throttling"

about the same amount of money as you're throwing into your higher end carbon fiber "Pee Wee and his Big Adventure" pedal device.

If you were sliding a dirt bike around like that we'd have some respect, but hell you don't even have to balance those beasts....

How did this get off topic? We were talking about cool bikes, not redneck toys. Here is a picture of my team Avalanche right after I got done polishing it out.

I am having a hard time getting my head around this statement. Do you think there is enough spoke flex, stretch, and compression that you can feel it?

The wheels/spokes actually flex so much that when you stop the bike on it's front wheel you can see the rim move towards the frontfork by about 1/4-1/2".
