Looking for cheap vacation, Temecula, CA?
Anyone here vacation there?
Looking for a room under $100 What are the best and worst locations in the area? Would like to have something close to food and shopping. Thanks!

Try to get a room in old town, or out at the wineries east of town. We stayed a couple nights at the Churon Inn. It was pretty good and reasonably priced.

Vacation compared to where?
We stayed one night at the casino there when we saw a concert. Was nice enough, but I wouldn't have gone there if not for the show. |

In town, anything off of/close to Ynez or Rancho Californa (roads) is a safe bet. Most of the wineries are off of Rancho Cali Rd as well (just a bit further out/east). Lots of big $$ horse breeders out that way too. T-town is only about 45 min. north of SD as well. Have fun! |

The only vacationing to be had there would be to stay at one of the wineries. That might be considered vacation. Old town is cool. Not much for shopping in Temecula.

temecula for vacation? Why not drive there in the morning. Do whatever you want to do, and drive back to San Pedro? Only less than an hour drive, Scott.

It's pretty close to the Wild Animal Park, that could be a good day trip. and then there are the wineries.

The cost of breakfast is about the same everywhere. I'd drive another 30 min to Julian.

+1. Not much in Temecula. T-town wine is generally < average. Nothing to note in food either. Casinos are near if that's your bag. Me...I would drive closer to the ocean and head into Del Mar.

well if you do come out to temecula go down the 5 to 74 ortega hwy for a quick run atleast that will be the highlight of your trip to temecula unless you decide to go to julian also.
I do live out this way temecula does have some good restaurants and the casino. ok ok and the wineries. you can do a hot air ballor ride over the wineries or do a tour bus that goes to some selected wineries and basically get drunk.......

I do like wine.... If I want to do casino's I will jump a cheap filght to Lost Wages.
But after some research (google maps) and your advice... think I will be better served to head up Santa Ynez/Solvang. Thanks everyone

Excellent decision Scott. Santa Ynez is a very quaint town with quality people in the middle of an obscene amount of money (horse ranches and wineries). Wife and I love visiting there - my good friend is a private pilot and has a hanger at the Santa Ynez airport.
I suggest a pre-dinner drink at Maverick saloon on the corner of Sagunto St. and Meadowvale Rd. In the morning head over to Valley Grind (3558 Sagunto Street) for incredible coffee and pastries with a very relaxed setting and friendly locals. Last time we were there a lady came by with two Alpacas on leash - one was mellow the other liked to spit ![]() If you find yourself in Santa Barbara I highly recommend watching the sunset at Brophy Bros (119 Harbor Way, Santa Barbara, CA). They are on top of the SB harbor with views of the harbor and SB foothills + mountains. One of the best views in California with great (simple) seafood and a nice bar. Get a seat outside on the deck. Wonderful place. Have fun! Last edited by JavaBrewer; 04-19-2012 at 08:57 AM.. |

Not cheap, but 246 Root in Solvang is a sublime restaurant.

solvang, yeah. Take your 911. Some nice curvy road there. I was there the day the 365 group gathered. Won't forget that day. The only thing was that I was in a minivan

When you leave Temecula, it's a great drive to Mt. Palomar and the observatory. In fact, we did a Pelican run up there a couple of years ago.

In Santa Barbara, try the Boathouse At Hendry's Beach. Great fresh fish and fare and reasonably priced....
