New Springsteen Album
Any of you heard the new Bruce Springsteen album? This is getting pushed really hard on a lot of stations. I have to endure "Easy Money" several times a day. After a bunch of hand clapping in the first section, the second half of the song is repeating the three cord melody with na-na-na-na-na lyrics and a a "hoy" yelp every beat. WTF?
The other song I get to hear is "We take care of our own" which is much the same int he second half of the song and carries a very vague political message. Sometimes it is better these guys don't attempt a comeback. The guy should go fishing, do charity work or something else IMHO. What do you think? Any big Bruce fans? I'm a fan of The Boss, I like it OK; I've got it on rotation, and it sounds pretty good.

I stopped listening to Bruce after the River. He could have stopped there too. I still listen to certain songs from his first 5 albums all the time. But later stuff just doesn't do it for me.

My wife, a big Bruce fan, was a bit non-plussed by the some of the material from his new album performed on "Jimmy Fallon" (??) a few weeks back. I had to agree with her.

I listen to "Little Steven's Underground Garage" a lot. They are pushing this album very herd. I don't know if they are buddies with Bruce, it may be that this plays a role and other stations take it easier.
I haven't listened to much of his later music - this "Easy Money" song just got on my nerves to the point where I wanted to see if I am the only one. ;) G |
I think 'Little Steven' plays in the 'E Street Band'... I think...which may explain 'the push'.

Steven Van Zandt - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia LOL! That explains it! I was completely unaware that Little Steven was more than a radio host ... thanks for filling me in! G |
Bruce is living off his name and hasn't writen a good song in years. The album is pure crap.

I saw that appearance on Jimmy Fallon back in March, and the show was rebroadcast tonight. I watched it again. Like Hawkeye's wife, I was very underwhelmed by the two songs from the new album. If there's a way to watch it online at NBC's site, what you'll see out of the first song, Death to My Hometown, is a well-written song with good imagery like always, and what looks like Bruce playing hard so he can stomp around a lot and prove he's not over the hill. I think the song is about the Wall Street banks/hedge funds corruption thing and the damage. The second song, "Jack of All Trades," is a slow tempo, melancholy song about life and the turns it takes and surviving in difficult situations and difficult times. Another good song from one of our nation's greatest songwriters. Respect for both songs, but sometimes the politics just creeps in a little too often these days. And then they played "The E Street Shuffle" afterwards... with The Roots and a large horn section from who knows where. A little bit of the magic returned for a few minutes. But, I haven't bought the new album. Probably won't. |
