Car transport, with a twist - lots of them
Theoretical question for now... I've used car shippers before, so I know how this works and what it costs... It may become cost prohibitive at a certain point, say if you plan on relocating cross country and own more than 5 cars ;-)
A friend mentioned hiring a private transporter and fill up his truck, and let my classic (or regular) car insurance take car of protection - should be covered regardless... Has anyone done something like that ? I liked Reliable/intercity from past experience (Hell even DAS did fine by me despite what I'm hearing here), but unless they do mass discounts, I'm looking at a 5 digit bill based on what the last car shipment cost me... Nope, no relo money from work sadly ! |

Our track transport is a 3 car hauler, in the past we have had to hire an additional hauler to bring cars to the track, sometimes we have to support as many as 7-8 cars at the track.
We bring the hauler, another tractor trailer, and often a car on an open trailer.. The cost to hire the extra hauler is fixed depending on distance, that cost is then divided between the number of cars. I don't have the number of the guy we use handy. Have you though of using an open multi car trailer?

A multi car trailer would probably work, those I prefer enclosed for safety (both from the elements and to not attract undue attention). I need to look those kindof businesses up, assuming they'd do cross country too... I have a several months beforeI know whether this happens or if it'll take longer. If you guys have names of reliable independant transporters, that can take 5 or 6 cars, I'd happily file this away. Might sell one before I go, too, I don't know... Don't really want to ;-)

If you can fill a truck, you'll get a much better rate per car than if you are shipping just one. You might as well ask for a quote. I'd read yrour insurance policy really carefully before you assume it would cover transport.
