Where to eat and what to see in Columbus, Ohio?

Please suggest good places to eat while visiting Columbus Ohio and places to see.

The last time I tapped into the Pelican brain trust about places in Alabama the group came away very satisfied.

Thank you in advance for your suggestions.

Best Regards,
Speedy:)

Type of food ?

When will you be here ?

What are you in to ?

Answer these questions grasshopper and then I'll answer yours...............

Food=anything that represents local flavor. I have been to China and so can eat anything. I am looking for a non-chain place.

When=in about an hour.

In to = Sailing, Porsches, site seeing the countryside, twisty roads, unique sites which represent the area.

There are some areas not far from downtown .

German Village is a gaunt , mostly brick homes that were settled by Germans many years ago .

Lindey's (169 E. Beck Street, Columbus Oh 43206,(614) 228-4343) is a nice place with very good food Lindey's > Home and except for the cobblestone streets (rough) a nice place to drive and look at restored homes.

Fun cheap place to eat is Schmidts Sausage haus (240 East Kossuth Street Columbus, OH 43206
(614) 444-6808) very old (1886) and very good. Schmidt's Sausage Haus und Restaurant

A few minutes North of there is an area called the Short North .

Japanese.......Haiku ( 800 North High Street Columbus, OH 43215
(614) 294-8168 ), Asian Pacific style of cooking , lots of art galleries in the area. Haiku : Poetic Food and Art : Short North - Columbus, OH

Another restaurant in that area is Rigsby's (698 North High Street Columbus, OH 43215
(614) 461-7888) good food and wine.Northern Italian food , Rigsby's Kitchen

If you're in town tomorrow we've got a world class zoo (Jungle Jack Hanna) , good shopping at Easton and up I-71 is Polaris shopping (good eats up there too)

Shoot me a pm and I'll give you a phone # where I can be reached at for more ideas.

Thurman Café has monster burgers , hell there is one called the Thurmanator. When the Arnold Classic is in town the body-builders go there for one ,has everything ,24 oz, about 3500 calories (went and looked , it's 4800 calories) and $16.50

Man vs food (Adam Richmond) also went to Schmidt's , if sausage is what you like they have a sausage buffet with sides. Very large cream-puffs and great beer.

Graters has some of the best ice-cream around . Black raspberry chip . Yum

+1. Really good German food and the 1/2 pound cream puff for dessert :D
I know you said no chain restaurants but the original Max & Erma's is also in German Village (I have some fond memories of that place from my days as a student at OSU). It's a great burger & beer place.
Columbus is a great town. Hope you enjoy your stay there.

I worked at Grant Hospital 30 years ago and would go down to M&E's and get a basket of wings and a cold one , then walk down and do my laundry , walk back and eat some more , go back and put my clothes in the dryer.

Missed out on the whole Suds and Duds thing ! But it was cool with me before it ever took off later.

Another idea missed

If you like fish & chips, this place is pretty good. I have been there a couple times when visiting my sister in Columbus. : Welcome to the Old Bag of Nails Pub :

Keep the tips coming, I never know where to stop in Columbus. We've stopped twice at Dublin off 33 for some Kebabs in a strip mall. It was OK, but I've had better.

La Chatelaine is a great, authentic French place. The atmosphere at the Upper Arlington location I go to is more of a lunch/light dinner place. The family came over from France about 20 years ago and they have 4-5 locations now. Good place and great atmosphere.
For Italian and a good spot for dinner, Spagios on Grandview is a good spot. I also like Figlio's on Riverside, but they also have a place on Grandview.
