Is AT&T right?

Just heard this today I thought it was kind of funny.
AT&T workers protesting cause company says they cannot wear stickers the read WTF while at work.

Workers claim WTF stands for "Where's The Fairness"

AT&T says other wise.

Groesbeck Hurricane 04-25-2012 11:16 AM

Back when competition first started AT&T told us a few decades ago that we would NEVER have long distance phone service again if we switched to Sprint as they were going out of business soon and AT&T would NOT take us back. They've called a few times since wondering if we would like to come back.....

Based upon their track record with me I'd say: No, AT&T has it wrong. They just do not wish to advertise an upset workforce to outsiders.

WTF is almost universally known to mean "What the Frak?!?". Honestly, that has no place in the workplace.

If you don't like the way they do things where you work, get a different job.

I pains me to say it because I hate AT&T, but AT&T is right. You can't have the "family" airing the dirty laundry to everyone all the time. After work they can protest, picket, whatever, but when they are on the clock everyone needs to focus on their job and be a team player.

"If you don't like the way they do things where you work, get a different job."

With unemployment at 8.5% that's not exactly a viable option. Organizing to change an employer's practices is legitimate, but not during work hours.

Groesbeck Hurricane 04-25-2012 02:53 PM

All kidding aside, that phrase has zero place in the office ESPECIALLY if customers are going to be present. There are more meaningful ways to approach your employers to affect change.

Call me old school but when anybody uses acronyms for swear words or swear words, they have zero credibility. No response on my part needed. I just walk away. Now in a bar might be different, I might puff out my chest and use the f bomb but I confess that I don't have the muscled body or the youth to back it up. Only been punched out once. Really don't like it. Putting WTF on the back of your work shirt - means that u r biting the hand that feeds u. Don't like that either:)

I agree complete with you all.
However, I saw these guys actually picketing over this on the news.
Stupid move IMO. And when the union guy explain the issue. I found it funny.

I would get fired for posting the slightest disparaging words about my employer on FB, let alone walking in public with a sign about it. And I'd fire anyone who worked for me who did the same. Don't like it? Find a better job.

I personally know of a BOHICA group as a local place of business. On occasion the secret members will call each other and have a beer at a local restaurant after work hours to commiserate with each other. Some employees work there for years before they are invited to join the group. It is an elite group.

"bend over, here it comes again"!!

Zeke 04-26-2012 03:45 PM

WTF = Well, they're fired.
