Ba-115hpt
I figure this will get at least one guy's attention. Thanks Dave, for the tip.
This bass amplifier has a TON of tone controls that has taken me months to get a grip on. At first, I was focused on just the deeper settings (I'm old school) but lately I'm finding some settings that really BITE through the mix and here's the best part: I am figuring out how to get a Jazz bass to growl. On certain settings, with certain finger action and a bit of bridge pickup, this thing growls like a tiger. I love bass guitar. Big time. It is THE instrument to play and this is a very nice combo amp. Very nice. Thx, Dave.

I try to keep you on the right path grasshopper. I think I will be selling mine soon. I have my bigger stage rig, the SVT-410 HLF with the PF-500 amp on top and it makes more sense to just add a 115 portaflex cab to that rig as a mix or match set up using the 500 for one or the other or both. My BA115HP has served me well though. Great amp.
J basses do growl ya just gotta find the right settings. I'm finding that out myself with the MIM fret less. |

It's actually pretty convenient, being a one-piece thing. And....it seems to actually have the balls to handle gigging in small and medium-sized clubs. Even with a loud drummer and two guitarists who compete with each other. When the music gets "messy" like that, I can find settings that will bite through the mix. Bass players sometimes need to show some leadership.
![]() But eventually, I will need something bigger. You ask about weight, and I have been jonesing for an SVT for, oh....about forty years. I fell in love with their tone while I was still a teenager. The head alone weighs nearly a hundred pounds. The speaker cabinet is the size of a refrigerator. But here's the deal: Everyone, and I mean everyone, who has used one reports that there is nothing else like it. For tone or dynamics. One guy recently reported that his gigs are either small (500 to 1500) or large (2000 to 5000) and his volume knob at the larger gigs is set at 3.5. I really REALLY want an SVT. But for now, I am still having some great fun with it's little baby brother, the BA-115HPT.

I used an SVT-810 for years. I never had the head though just the cab. I used a variety of heads though from a stereo BGW amp that was bridged to make 900 watts to a Hartke 3500 @ 400 watts. Anything that you used to run that cab just sounded awesome. The are a biotch to move around though. We played cruise ships for a while in the 80's and it was a nightmare getting it on and off the ship. Nothing...yes nothing sounds like an 8x10 svt ...nothing. Even at low volume.

Yup. I must have one of those. Once before I die. The SVT is to a bass guitar what the Leslie is to a Hammond B-3. It has been king of that hill for 45 years. I'll be happy to lug around its 90 lbs of mass. Plus the cabinet(s). Imagine.....an SVT and two 810's. That could be used to demolish brick buildings where a wrecking ball is unavailable.

The cab weighs 140 lbs. 16 x 10"s was the standard original configuration. Standing in front of one at 600 + watts does give you a "massage". Actually it makes yer nuts rattle...honest it does.

What a BEAST! lugging my Bassman 10 was enough for me, but I did get to play through one of those Ampeg monsters once. It kinda scared me! BIG difference. It should be rated on the richter scale, not wattage.

That thing would win any volume war, anywhere, anytime. Plus, as I say, the other element of the equation is tone. I've loved the SVT since the first time I ever heard it. And today, I hear bass players stating conclusively that nothing else can match it's tone. Nothing.
I HAVE to own one. Some day. It'd be the equivalent of a Porsche guy driving a 917-30. Same degree of industry domination.

Nice! How many watts is that baby.
I think it's funny that the word "beast" is used to describe the SVT810. Not just here today but I see it all the time in print ads. It does describe it well. I too will own one again if I get flush with bucks. I nice 8-10 can be had for around $600. |

My '59 reissue tops out at a mere 45 watts. Which, incidentally, is enough to make my wife file for divorce should I decide to crank it.
![]() It's all-tube. There's something about the Fender clean tone that I just love.

Yup, 45 tube watts will get plenty loud. And yes, Fender tone is legendary.
Fender is coming out with a 300-tube-watt bass head. Guess what that thing will be compared to.

![]() I heard an interesting statistic the other day...Fender owns something like 70+% of the above-$500 bass guitar market. And the bass market is around 7% the size of the guitar market. With those kind of numbers I'm surprised Fender puts any money into its bass products at all... I wonder how the bass amp numbers fall out.
