Say Hello To My Little Friend

The guys at the shop gave me this old SXS as a ball bust. 12Ga. Stamped "Manhattan Arms Co." but made by Hunter Arms I found out. It was a wreck, broken stock, bulged barrels, rust everywhere, would not cock or fire, not even the original stock. They all thought it was pretty funny and told me it was a freebie for the work I did for them last week. Well you can't do stuff like that to me. It's like waving a red flag in front of a bull. I was already bluing Henry's barrels so I cut these off to 19" to get rid of the bulge and the dents ,(LOA is 35"), and just threw them in every time I did Henry's. Then I just fixed and finished the rest of it. Now it cocks, auto safety works, both barrels fire nice and crisp, and it shoots just fine! All the metal cleaned up nice, and I fixed all the screw heads and timed them.

So I'm taking it in to the shop tomorrow. I can't wait to see their faces.

how's that .410?

herr_oberst 04-26-2012 07:10 PM

Nice! Beautiful! Swell!

The perfect finish to this story is you selling this little sweeper back to the funny folks who gave it to you! (For a generous profit, of course!)

targa911S 04-26-2012 07:12 PM

THAT would be pretty poetic!

Yeah, I would have a "friend" bring it in and see what they can sell it for.

Back in the 70's when the Symbionese Liberation Army, ( SLA ) was on the Loose, My Grand Pa had a similar sawed off 12Ga, He'd pat it with his hand and say, " Symbionese ".

I just wish we lived closer. You should see the state of my Mugica 12 guage that has been around since I bought it as a school boy :(

yours has more class and doesn't require a $5 stamp

David,

You are a riot!

Nice work. Got any 'before' pics?

Pass out ear protectors for people in the shop to cover the sound of jaws hitting the floor.

Best
Les

No Les I didn't do before pics. I didn't think it would turn out this well. It really was junk.

Eric 951 04-27-2012 04:12 AM

Damn...once again, very impressive.

Mericet 04-27-2012 04:23 AM

Nice! Should see some nice things this weekend as I am going to the Southern Side by Side here in NC.

targa911S 04-27-2012 04:38 AM

have fun Neil. Thanks Eric.

That's some craftsmanship! Very nice! :)

azasadny 04-27-2012 10:05 AM

Beautiful work, as usual!!

That is a nice looking piece of furniture. I have a couple Ruger Mini 14's. That's about it. Question....
Why do I see many pictures of owner's guns with something stuffed between the
trigger and the trigger guard? Is it a legal requirement? I am being honest here.
I really don't know why. Thanks.

targa911S 04-28-2012 09:20 AM

Well I use it to prop the spoon up for a better picture. Can't speak for others but I believe they would say the same.

Rapewta 04-28-2012 11:05 AM

Makes sense. Thanks.
I have a Ruger P95 9mm semi-auto that I want to take the "slide" off.
Take the slide down to the engraver and have engraved on the front...
"smile, wait for flash".

Jandrews 04-28-2012 06:28 PM

David...the little .410 is great! I would still love to find some replacement barrels in good condition, as it is a shame for the dents to put a slight damper on an otherwise perfect spoon! What are the chances of finding some, and would it be cost prohibitive to pursue?

Thanks,

JA
