BPH or Prostate cancer?
So I have recuriing UTI due to my spinal injury. As soon as I start the anti biotices I get relief from the symptoms. And within days of stopping I get some symptoms returning. The Dr is stumped so now I'm going in for a prostate biopsy.
The question is if the symptoms respond to antibiotics how can it be cancer? I suppose getting the biopsy is no big deal but I'm not a fan of unneccessary procedures. What do the doctors here think? Clearly your opinions are freely accepted and carry no responsibility on your part for my actions. I am going through with the biopsy.

Did he do a manual exam or PSA? Not a doc, but not sure why a recurring UTI warrants an ultrasound probe and biopsy gun up your keester.
Might want to consider a second opinion (from a real doc). |

The antibiotics treat the symptoms secondary to the swole up prostate, they don't do much to shrink it.

So then the symptoms would seem to be related more to the bladder than the prostate? I can urinate freely w/out pain when on the meds.

taking those anti's over & over again is not good..
do you go frequently or are you 2 / 3 times a day... have they done a culture of the urine... having been on those anti's for a while you could have built a resistance.. = you feel better..just not cured..stop the meds = comes back... had a ear inf. that just would not leave... turned out to be resistant to just about everything... some heavy duty Keflex did the trick.. Antibiotics can have have a side effect of reducing inflammation, so maybe that's factoring in.
Good luck. It really sucks having medical problems that the doctors can't diagnose.

If you sit for any length of time, look into a "doughnut" sitting device which keeps pressure off that area.
There are blood vessels and nerves all up-in-there. That, and hemeroids/etc. are very common with older men sitting for a long time. |

BPH is enlargement, treated with flomax or uroxatrol. Cancer is cancer. But prostatitis is a third thing and not one you mentioned. Usually it's a deeply embedded infection that cause enlargement of a different sort than BPH. Usually a 30 day long course of cipro or levaquin will quell it, and cause all sorts of other GI and tendon issues...
Spicy foods, caffeine, and putting it where it doesn't belong can all set you back again. Good luck.
