Wouldn't that be the bomb for a nice car at the track just doing the front?

I did the rear bumper of my S-10 that way (rattle can plastic coat).
Not as durable as you would think, but maybe my prep was bad. I climbed up the bumper a few months after application, and the edge where my shoe was just pealed off. A spot of surface rust formed there soon after. I have to re-do the whole thing now. Some idiot rear ended me a few weeks ago.

You can see down on the rocker where the factory stone guard was.... When the car was repainted they used this clear urethane crap, that hasn't don't much stone protection, and when it gets cone marks, it won't buff out.... Wonder if I could cover it up. May get a rattle can and do a small test patch, see if it does match, and will pull off....
![]() Little more evident here. Those cone marks WILL NOT come out. We've tried every trick in the book, and its got my dad the ex-body man quite stumped, and the body shop can't remember what they used... GRR!!! ![]() |

My brother has started doing this on his guys' work vehicles. The company decided that all the guys had to have white vehicles. Well, none of them get paid squat, so they can't go out and buy a new vehicle.
So...plasticote away. It's something I would do for rock protection on a vehicle temporarily, but I have my doubts about this being a long term solution of any type. I have a feeling that there will be discoloring of the original paint if this is left on for a long period of time. Guess we'll see. angela

Wouldn't you love to see what the driveway looks like after he backs that car out?
Oops.

Angela, if left long term the paint under the coating will definitely be a different color due to the rest of the paint sunfading. I'm not too concerned about it on the rockers of my car, thats low, and needs to be covered anyways. Oh and the car spends 99% of its life inside..

Especially on a red car. I considered adding some vinyl stripes to my car, but then decided against it for fear that I'd end up with a permanently striped vehicle down the road because of the fading. Red and silver are bad about fading.

When we got our red International, the VIN and DOT numbers from the previous company were still VERY legible. We ended up having to cover the entire lower section of the door with a diamond deck look vinyl to get our own numbers to read right.
Yes, red is a horrible color about fading. I certainly wouldn't do anything on the top side of my car.... |

This is interesting. My car has a mediocre (at best) paint job. A PO took it to Maaco.

Yeah, I'm thinking that. Also seems easier to get a good finish with matte than glossy, for a first-timer.
And maybe I'll get a "jet fockkin' black" bumper sticker made up... ![]()
