recommend a bow?

As a spoon guy, I've played with bows but back in the dark ages when there were no choices....

My oldest daughter has enjoyed archery on occasion at camps, etc. But after reading "The Hunger Games" she *really* wants a bow... even to go squirrel hunting. Cool!

But what to get her?

Challenges - she's 11 going on 19. 5'4", will grow a few more inches. She's also a lefty. And she insists on a recurve.

Suggestions?

If I get stuck with a lefty it's yours for the shipping. Kiss of death, LH guitars, bows and guns.

Make one.

Not that difficult.

Made a straight bow for my daughter last year. She's also 11. And yes the interest was also inspired by The Hunger Games.

Prior to making her first she made several herself out of twigs.

She's graduated to a compound now.

Decent instructions for a normal bow.

Start with this.

Poor Folk Bows

Good father daughter project.

Take her to a bow shop with a range and demo. :p

+1 on the bow store and definitely have her take lessons.

They must be very busy these days. :)

It is great though to get young people interested in archery. I have shot a stick bow for a while and what a hoot. Even took a hog with it a few years ago ...

Take a look at a Mohegan Greatree - around $100, available for lefties, and has collapsible limbs which also means you can upgrade the limbs as the kid grows. Make sure to start out with a light draw weight.

Have fun!
