Don't know if I'll make it all the way to Portland, but I was going to do a road trip for vacation this year. Monterey, San Francisco, Mendocino/Ft Bragg and on up into Oregon. Haven't really seen the coast up there, how is Coos Bay or Astoria? Any other cool stops I should make? No real plans, just meandering along with camping gear, guitar and fishing poles.

the coast is nice; small towns broken up by parks-
the beach is public from one end to the other-

Come visit Arizona, then go back home! ![]()

I'm the same complexion as lane912 Joe, although I spend a lot of time in the sun in So. Cal. Phoenix and Tucson are nice, but I think I'm more of a Flagstaff kind of guy as far as Az. goes. The rocks and cactus get old real quick.

I was there 2 days after Mt St Helen wrupted in May 1980 and I spent a summer on Mt Hood, working at Timberline Lodge. We went into Portland every week for supplies. I loved the place and the people!

i love portland. great people..great food. no taxes.
i'll be there this summer to buy a pair of boots from danner. i have weird feet that prevents me from mail ordering. tax free helps. i was up there once visiting my sister. she was in law school and had to study. she loaned me her car and i simply got lost. i drove till i saw a river and people wind surfing on it. i stopped to watch and take pics. some young couple asked me where i was from. and they they offered me gear to try the windsurfing! complete strangers. i declined cuz i had to go..and they were obviously a couple. i didnt want to be third wheel..if they were both ladies, i would have gotten wet. in the river. really nice people over there.

We really have two seasons. May it starts getting hot and stays summer until Sept, then the "Good times" are from Sept to May again and while most of the rest of the country is freezing, we are happy. If you want snow, drive 90 minutes up to Flag...

it took those guys over 10 years to make that film - reason is that it took them that long to find days without rain so they could film

Now in 993 land ...

Too much liquid sunshine.
The city is just another collection of buildings and roads. I am not fooled by playing the traffic in fast fwd. ![]() The issue with liberal cities surrounded by rural areas is that the large population in the city will dictate what's done in the rest of the state, so you still have to deal with that, even if you are in the boonies. This is especially true in states that have direct democracy "majority rule" propositions. G |

I've been to Arizona on a number of occasions, and found it pleasant. On the other hand, I loved away from Boise because of the visual monotony. Sand and sage brush. Arizona is a nice place to visit. Also, in terms of commercial opportunity, it's practically a "southern" state. I prefer places where wages and average education levels are higher.
Seattle builds airplanes and writes software. And we brew coffee and beer. We like trees and mountains, too. In Seattle, standing on Capital Hill, you will see a huge fresh water lake and the Cascade mountain range to your east.......Puget Sound and the Olympic mountain range to your west, and dormant volcanoes to your north and south. When the sky is blue in springtime, Seattle is (and I mean this literally) the most beautiful city in the world. Portland is a sister-city, which I also love.

Don't forget the most strippers and pole dancers per Portland capita compared to any other state or city (including las vegas)
The freeway designer should be SHOT who-ever designed the freeway 5-6 stacked high over the river I-5 mess, what a cluster, and never is above 35 mph and 90% of the time is a dead stop.
