Curious about your weather observations for spring.
Hello.
I'd like to know if you've experience any differentials in your norm of spring this year-so far? -Just Spring is which I'm curious about. Thank you. |
Seemed a bit warm (a few days over 80F in March), now a bit cool for the season. As long as it does not snow, I am happy:)
|
Warmer than normal...
Oh, and we've already had too many of those big spinny things..... |
Record warmth in March. Below average temps for about a week now.
Had a dusting of snow Sat. night. Temp this morn. 22* F Currently 33* so we're in for another frost tonight. |
Not here, seems to be cooler than the norm for the third straight spring. Cutting into my comfy Targa cruising season....yeah I still go lidless but I don't go out as often.
|
Record temps in March. A bit below normal almost all of April. A lot of wind - I mean days of 20mph+. It's unnerving for the wind to be blowing so hard so constantly.
|
our dry season is very wet
|
Seems average to me. One thing is if we have any high winds, it's now. So far, fairly calm spare a day or 2.
|
Well Mike I have not seen any convertibles with their tops down in our city yet. I went out golfing a couple of days ago and I was the first on the golf course and when I left there were only 2 other golfers on the course. Yes it is a little cool yet. Speaking of cool, the Boxster looks the coolest in a California setting. I think it has to do with their weather. Decision time - when to take off the snow tires LOL:)
|
Very mild.
|
I've had to fire up the pellet stove every night for the past two weeks.
|
Pretty cold and late spring for us. Quite abruptly the weather changed to 89 degrees over about two days (40 or so degree temp change). Then cold again, then very pleasant this weekend.
I suspect that within a week we'll move into solid late spring/very warm weather. At least, that's what the grass is thinking! angela |
Pretty average hear in NorCal.

I'm not sure if we follow you or you follow us, but in New Zealand and Australia it's rained more than usual.
Our farmers in NZ say it's been the best grass/crop growing summer in over 30 years. I didn't really notice the rain myself as it only rains occassionally in Wellington, but in my drive around the South Island it was green everywhere. Normally it's parched dry dust blown dirt. Australia, phew, it doesn't rain often but when it does it does. New South Wales (Sydney state) was half under water and where our darling gone but not forgotten Lisa Spyder is from in Victoria had big flooding as well. In other words; an unusual number of low pressure weather systems in the tropics dragged hot moist air down to meet our cooler temeratures resulting in frequent rains. |
Spring! it was 43 degrees here yesterday w/ a 20 mph north wind. It's 20 degrees this morning, what spring????
|
IMO it's freaking hot here, but it's only my second spring in Charleston and I was used to Seattle weather before the move.
|
Cool & wet.....snow levels bouncing up & down.....with a few warm days in the mix. The cherry trees bloomed on schedule & the honey bees made the show.:D
Typical spring in the PNW. |
This has been a very early spring for us. I can remember many years that the roses are just getting into full bloom by Mother's day. This year the roses have finished the first round and are into summer mode.
Four years ago was the wettest on record. Two years ago was looking to be wetter than that up until July when the rain stopped. It was very dry for the rest of that year and all of last year. So far this year it is very wet and no one is complaining about all the rain. I would have to say it is just typical weather. In the long ruin it all averages out. |
ssshhhhh be very quiet...no hurricanes this year....
|
pool in use ..
it's warm.. gonna get hot.. Rika |
It's been alternating warm & cool spells confusing the budding trees & plants. The cool periods between the short times of warm weather have been cooler than usual with more precipitation than usual also. This past winter we had more snow than many years past.
|
Charlotte had near record warmth for spring. Started in late Feb and has been warm since. By the end of March our lawn had already been mowed at least 5 times. Had one cool week just past, but going to be 85 today.
|
Over here it's been cooler than usual. Just when you think spring is here, it's snows in one big burp. This has happened 3 times now. The last storm was 2 weeks ago and i figure that's it. Spring is here. The trees started budding around 10 days ago a bit late. It's been cooler than it ought to be.
I felt so bad for the Robins and sparrows when we had those terrible 1 day storms. Caught them off guard. |
BY FAR the most beautiful, longest spring I can remember on record here near Atlanta. Averaging 70-80 degrees for what seems like 3 months
|
plant phenology is about two weeks advanced in the PNW
this is despite being at the convergence of two different types of cold wet cycles - one is the Pacific Decadal Oscillation and the other is the shorter cycle La Nina/El Nino cycle once we are past that I expect we will be in for some hellacious heat |
Another winter with no snow - which is starting to be a trend here - then a record breaking heat wave near the end of March which totally confused our plant life. Our prized wisteria started to come alive & then the buds were frozen in early April. :( Since then it has been unseasonably dry with normal coolish temps.

90 + degrees, then a killing frost on the apple crop. Multiple frosts after prolonged hot weather.
