Any way to find out a restricted phone number?
My wife got a couple voice messages on her cell a couple weeks ago. They were from an unknown source (no phone number showed up on her phone). They were garbled/broken but disturbing messages from a female. One sounded like "you dirty whore" and the other had some profanity with "f'n kill you" thrown in.
Unless my wife is having an affair I don't know about (and even if she is) is there any way these phone numbers can be traced? Fortunately it hasn't happened in a couple weeks. Maybe a wrong number? edit: Sorry, caller ID on my wife's phone has the number listed as "Unknown," not "Restricted." |
the caller is hot, and has attended children's birthday parties lately.

My thoughts exactly Mike....
I seriously doubt you can trace it though Doc. Got any LEO friends? Ask them for a favor? |
heh heh. These phone calls were before I met that mom.
|
before you met the mom. maybe she's known you for a while....
this has the makings of a great Lifetime movie. LOL. |
I agree... We let the doc write it, you direct, I'll produce... We all get new GT3s when its done?
|
So how do you get a phone number listed as "unknown?" Not as "restricted," but as "unknown?"
|
Dial *67 before the number you are calling will block it... I know there are other ways, I think you have to talk to your provider...
I know my future employer always calls from an unlisted number, for reasons that are still beyond me... |
Just tried the *67 trick. It comes across as "restricted."
Again, how does a number come across as "unknown?" |
With a call to your provider....
|
In the "Phone" menu in an iPhone, you can tell it to not show your caller ID, but I don't know how that displays...
|
"unknown" is not uncommon.

put a blocked number / restricted number block on the phone line. You can do it through your online account (I have it on Verizon)
next time it pops up you'll know. |

I'm a landlord and I have used this as an excellent way of getting the police to help out in an eviction situation LOL, I know it's just a figure of speech for certain classes of people but it sure can be used against them. In this country it gets used a lot. When someone yells it at me I put on my private school accent and say "Sure, how about a duel? You decide. Fists and boots. Knives. Guns?" It quicky becomes apparent I'm crazier than they are and they back off. |
Unknown has popped up for me from overseas numbers, weird little rickety cell phone providers out in the middle of nowhere, might even be an internet phone setup of some sort.
It could be a wrong number called by some drunk chick in England or Mexico. in LA with an LA phone # anything is possible. I'd blow it off until it happens again- but do enact that option on the line- Wife doesn't have to know you did it. Phone won't act any different, but every single number that calls will now show, IIRC even on the bill. rjp |
