Check out the series "Carrier" on Hulu. Not sure how they pulled it off, but the folks they talk to are amazingly open and honest about life on the Nimitz. This is a preview - there are ten one hour long episodes available.

I made a cruise aboard Nimitz in 88/89. Last operational cruise of the A-7 Corsair.
Toward the end of the cruise an AO in my shop fired a 20mm cannon off doing an ops check. Middle of the night, general quarters. Very awe inspiring seeing flames that high, amid a packed bow with the planes all armed and fueled for the first go the next morning. I remember the Gunner grabbing me and we worked our way way forward, first port the back down the starboard side, checking for ordnance that was near cookoff. Lost a shipmate. My memories of the Nimitz |
