Are Subarus Targets for Idiots?

The idiot is walking up towards my Forester after he hit it, while it was stopped.

The wheel is toast & I would not trust the tire after this - bumper cover is toast, and repairs will be required for the R door & R panel behind the door.

Body shop says over $3,500 in damage

I told the guy "I am really angry right now, but I hope you don't lose your job or your license."

I feel sorry for him (when I focus on that and ignore wanting to choke him after snapping his arms & legs off) -- he had only been on the job 8 months.

He was speeding and was way over in my lane (note the yellow dots in the photos) -- I came to a stop because I was alarmed that he might hit me for both those reasons... and he did.

stomachmonkey 05-04-2012 01:51 PM

Not a total idiot, he missed the red one.

Sucks but **** happens.

Don't let it unsettle your day.

notmytarga 05-04-2012 01:52 PM

A partial explanation lies in the driving position for the trash collection vehicle is on the right or left depending on where the cans are. So he wouldn't have the perspective with that truck that you and I have driving down a 2 way street - the size and driving position distort things quite a bit. I like how he is picking up the pieces. It is smart to photodocument damage and position. Kudos!
Also, it looks like there might have been a yellow line in the road which is faded quite a bit. Luckily the likelihood of an uninsured garbage truck is low!

widgeon13 05-04-2012 02:12 PM

Have you been to the emergency room for treatment?

RWebb 05-04-2012 02:19 PM

nope, no apparent injuries

yes, good thing I had a little snapshot camera in the car

RWebb 05-04-2012 03:19 PM

everybody drives a Subaru here - except those with a Prius or VW Bus...

and they may have a Sube as a 2nd or 3rd car - similar in the Rockies & New England -- they are pretty good snow cars; this one is my 2nd one, after an idiot woman T-boned my Outback

vash 05-04-2012 03:37 PM

Sucks. I bet he loses his job. What is a typical probation period?

vash 05-04-2012 03:38 PM

Glad nobody got hurt.

RWebb 05-04-2012 03:51 PM

dunno re his job - it seems obvious he was not watching out at all

I am feeling some back pain so will talk to an ER doc I usually see at various events on Fir & Sat evenings

or a surgeon same events & more

In all seriousness it can take 24 hours or more. I had a bicycle accident 30 years ago and felt fine. A day or so later my neck was absolutely killing me.

RWebb 05-04-2012 04:06 PM

thx - I'm aware!

Schumi 05-04-2012 05:02 PM

Back in Missouri, the idiots were usually the college aged morons who thought their WRX made them the next Petter Solberg.

Zeke 05-04-2012 05:20 PM

I waxed my car today and I'm feeling a little pain. I wonder if I should sue Maguires?

Just kidding. Hope you aren't hurt.

futuresoptions 05-04-2012 05:41 PM

What were you doing parked out in the middle of the street? :D

VINMAN 05-04-2012 05:46 PM

At least he stopped . Around here, the driver would have kept going.

john70t 05-04-2012 06:24 PM

He took a while to stop and skipped the can on the right. Probably hustling back to base with a full load. Not to excuse the incident, but when maintenance isn't done on those big haulers, a little slop in the steering can make them go sideways in a hurry.

Hope it gets fixed with minimal drama. Good for taking pics.

It's a very minor accident, why the hell would you go to the emergency room?

rusnak 05-04-2012 06:59 PM

You do know that they are called "Lezbarus" or "Lesbarus". Although there's nothing wrong with that.

Flieger 05-04-2012 07:09 PM

How come I only see young guys driving them then?

rusnak 05-04-2012 07:31 PM

Because they refer to each other as "*****", or "hooker"? Don't ask me man, ask them why they do that.

Flieger 05-04-2012 07:34 PM

I dunno. I think they are kinda cool. Boxer motor, you know. Lots of room and no need to worry about scratching or bashing it on a rally course like with a Porsche.

markivtruck 05-04-2012 10:55 PM

i see many subarus with the rainbow sticker on them.

Yawn.

stealthn 05-05-2012 08:02 AM

Why do you hope he won't lose his job? He drives for a living and he was speeding and over the line?....

Sounds like a good reason to me for him to lose his job

??

Bob

speeder 05-05-2012 10:04 AM

Agree with Bob. Untalented driver, working as a garbage truck pilot in the city = not bueno. Maybe he can work at the landfill instead.

I have not picked up any hot lesbians in this particular vehicle (yet).

Flieger 05-05-2012 12:10 PM

Well, good thing you are prepared to document the lesbians with the camera. Just make sure they are hot!

Bob

b/c I am a compassionate, caring individual

BTW - as expected my ER doc friend told me the emergency room would probably not X-ray me but WOULD have wasted at least 2 hours of my time (not to mention driving up rates for all since that is a very expensive way to do things)

my surgeon buddy talked about X-rays also -- my view is that a break is unlikely; will present soon enuff if it exists, and a hairline break is hard to find even with the modern X-ray technologies we have now

anyway, I am now wasting time filling out the obligatory report to the DMV

Hey, I would applaud you for it when you do.

stealthn 05-05-2012 02:24 PM

Sorry,

I think you would lose that compasion quick if he were to hit someone's child.

I would still feel bad after I had killed him

Guess I should have put that in GREEN print.

I drive an outback because the thing is awesome in snow and I'm able to identify with (hot) lesbian tastes.:)

rusnak 05-06-2012 08:09 AM

It sounds as if he would have gone to the ER, if his buddy had not advised against.

probably not - I figured they'd just waste my time

the type of pain I experienced is common in an auto accident and does not mean you have a problem that can benefit from medical treatment

Unless, you are, say, a physiologist or a clinician - then I would encourage anyone in an auto accident to play it safe and get your time wasted in the ER, esp. if it is hard enough that the air bags deploy

rusnak 05-06-2012 01:32 PM

Oh man, that sucks.
