Seems to me that hunters and fisherman pay the freight for much of what good the conservation movement does. Without Ducks Unlimited for example there would be far fewer wetlands than today.

The poachers and non sportsman out there spoil it but the vast majority of hunters and fisherman appreciate the outdoors and want to preserve it .

And though I no longer hunt -unless one is really vegan somebody does your killing for you to eat.

Yep! Pittman Robertson act established 10% tax on firearms ammo and optics (so bird watchers pay too). There is NO WAY I could drag my azz outta bed and lug a camera into the hills. Gimme my bow, rifle, shotgun and dogs...I'm in heaven. Everytime I'm out I envy those that have so many game opportunities close to where they live. Good job Yel...that is one of the greatest gifts my dad ever gave me...the chance to spend time in the hills hunting w/ him.

mono bring up the single best point about hunting. taxes on hunting equipment, and fees collected from licensing is HUGE!! in the billions and billions of dollars. all of it gets spent on conservation. hunters foot the bill.

and never forget how ironic it is that elephant hunting is saving the elephant. crazy.

BLOOD THIRSTY KIDS! i LOVE IT!

the only way the sport is handed down is by ones parents.
/grandparents. you dont just read a book/watch TV or ipad and go hunting/fishing. it takes alot of time mistakes to find game let alone down game.

many people think they know it all, let alone the fact they would probably die in a true survival situation. going to rei and buying all the latest goofy gear, doesnt mean you have the skills to survive inclement weather, or even get onto game let alone get a shot.

many many people get discouraged.

many many ill prepared people DIE! and GET EATEN because ALL THEY BROUGHT WAS BEAR SPRAY and lil BELLS! LMFAO! darwin at its BEST!

many many many people CANNOT handle the boredom(city slickers). and thats FINE BY ME because the less people the BETTER IT IS!

we saw NO PEOPLE.....................................NONE / NADA / ZIP!

many many people do not appreciate nor care for the outdoors evident by their SLOB WAYS! and trashing the hell out of the place.

we just got back from scouting this weekend. got out of werk at 1pm sat., gassed up, thru the ice chest beer spoons in the truck and we were the HELL OUTTA DODGE in 40 minutes wifey and myself.

did we see elk? nope. saw sign/track poo etc. downed fences w/fur on it etc. ton of deer less than 1.5 miles from our deer camp last october. the pic of the SPEED GOATS was a hoot.

blasted a 100rds on the HK USP full size .45 what a blast that was. still needs to be benched and sighted.

wifey blasted 500 rds(brick) out of her browning buckmark camper. learned FTF/FTE DRILLS. gawd help any bad guy she confronts. she is a SHOOTIST! she spent 2 hrs sunday looking for new grips for her browning buckmark! yep shes hooked!

i blasted a 100 rds .38 out of marlin lever and 100rds of .357(last to clean the lead out). that was a hoot. its dead nutz sighted in.

probably blasted another 250 rds out of my 22/45 ruger.

came back to total ho hum city boredom.

give me the outdoors any day.

p.s. what pissed wifey off really bad and set the shooting tone was there was some slob who left some beer bottles where we were shooting. i asked her can ya hit it? she took 10 rds right off the bat and missed. the next thing i said was "HOLD MA BEER and WATCH THIS(honest).......................AND NAILED IT 1st shot!

yes we picked up their trash.

that pissed her off and after about 500rds downrange for her.................well NOTHING WAS SAFE from her new found expertise. LOL!

Yeah Cliff. Remington 1100 20 gauge. The MIL let my daughter borrow it. After hunting with it she prefers an O/U due to the ease of loading/unloading and I agree. Just gotta find the dough to buy one. Kinda like the CZ line of upland O/U...

We split the birds, brined them lightly, then smoked them over apple wood. We froze most of them and pulled them out to make creamed smoked pheasant over the course of the winter. The house was always exited when that smokey smell filled the house. Delicious!

next time your in the East, spend some time in the country and report back
You've got that right. Upstate Maine is rough but beautiful country. I've taken motorcycle trips to Presque Isle & Caribu with nothing but the bike & camping gear. Lots of logging roads, (to get lost on) and land with nothing on it. And you haven't had a potato unless you've eaten a 'new' potato. They may not have elk but I'd put a bull moose up against any elk. Don't have Grizzlys but black bears are everywhere.

I think you pegged OJ right with the peyote . . .

I have Zero problems with licensed hunters doing their thing in season. I have downed a critter or two myself. But why do they have to whine for the rest of the year about the restrictions placed on them to shoot any living thing that crosses their path? I have a B-I-L like that. At the slightest provocation, he is loading up to kill. A bear ransacked a cottage somewhere on a lake? He’s there. A pet that is old? Done. A porcupine? They eat wood = Bad = Dead.

i hunter friend of mine had a dog that bit his wife a couple years ago. man how he he loved that dog. the wife went to the store and he took the dog out in the back yard and shot it in the head with his 45 and buried it. they way he saw it, he handled it like a man should. perhaps.

i also know a woman who loves to hunt, all year long. she stands on her deck and pops off deer, rabbits, turkeys or whatever else she sees with her bow...i would not cross this woman
