Finally----a return on my investment!

There is a Porsche God. My son who was a Toyota master tech, was just hired by the local Porsche dealership. It realized there was a treasure trove of experience in the old grey heads of their current technicians who would be retiring soon. So he and an ex-BMW tech (both in their late 20's)were taken on to learn the Porsche way from the experienced current techs and to be the "next generation" (their phrase). He now smiles condescendingly at my '77 911S--- but I can get hard to find parts at cost. :D

Our local dealer has one old grey Porsche mechanic. Since he is there that dealership will work on any 911. One local friend took in his 911 SC in for a valve adjustment & tune up and he had to bring his own timing light and dwel meter because not one mechanic at the place had one. The old grey there knew full well how to use it but all the young pups had only seen one used in a book.

The one old grey is amazing. He is factory trained on everything from air cooled 911s to Carrera GTs. He did a clutch job on a Carrera GT and works on all the new Porsches as well. And yes, I have his personal cell phone number :)

Congrats on you son getting to work there!

Who knew this upside of having children?

That is why I like to see what is being done to my P car particularly if it is an expensive job. Good luck to your son. I am sure he will do fine. :):):):)

Is it a trade secret or are we allowed to know what the markup is on Porsche parts?
