For The Same Money $45K-$50K..Pantera or Testarossa or 930? Which Would You Choose
Seeing that you guys had fun with the Testarossa comparisson, the Pantera would also be a worthy contender that has aged beautifully and in the same price range.

Ahhhhhh, I see, we are out amusing the masses again!
For my part I thank you, good to have a distraction: We ALL know the SC was the epitomy of good taste and engineering from Porsche. I suggest you add the SC to your list as a seperate entry. Well, maybe not such a good choice as we would all thereby be FORCED to choose the SC. SCWDP!!!!!!!! Pantera has always been more interesting to me than the Ferrari. However I would still have to go for a 930! Wife had some rude and rather crude comments about the Ferrari that the Moderators would have sent me to The Island for repeating. Wonder what she thinks about the Pantera? She returns tonight so I will ask her, IF I find any time ;-)

I started to buy a Pantera a few years ago. The factory seats are not very comfortable, the dash design has a rather "dated" look, and the ride is "meh". All of which can be corrected with a little money to update the interior and tweak the suspension.
The Pantera also has some rust issues and cooling issues that you need to address. All that said, I would take the Pantera over the Ferrari Testarossa every day of the week. It's more unique, and I like the body lines better. Since I already have a 911, I would take the Pantera over the 930. However if I had to choose between the 930 and the Pantera, it would be very difficult to decide.

I would have to drive them first, and that means I'd probably end up with the 930.
Styling wise an early Pantera like a 1972 would be my first choice, but I don't need a garage queen.

I'd be all over the Pantera. No question.

Every time I think about owning a Testarossa, I think about how much I detest wearing loafers without socks, and that I don't own a white linen sports coat.

#1 Pantara, drop dead gorgeous... but has issues (see cashflyers post)
#2 Testarossa, love or hate styling, I have had a hard on for one of these since I was a kid (and dinosaurs roamed the earth) but expensive maintenance. #3 930, Best deal of the bunch... most cluck for the buck. But then anyone looking at buying one of these three cars probably isn't concerned with practicality. ![]() ![]()

I have almost bought a couple Panteras, they are good looking cars, but did not like the way they drive. 930 is a good car, you can have a lot of fun with it, but I have always preferred the 964. of the lot I would have to go with the testarossa.

930. Looks the least dated, and will be the most 'liveable" to actually enjoy....

I have a friend who owns an independent repair shop that services all of these cars. I his book, the Pantera is one of the biggest piles of crap ever offered to the public. He hates them, as they were so poorly developed. I have to admit, the 930's come and go and seldom spend more than a day there, as does a TR, unless it is waiting on parts. The Panteras seem to live there, sometimes for weeks and months on end. I seldom visit the shop without seeing one laying about.
And, don't bother mentioning that there are "fixes" for all of the traditional Pantera problems and that "well-sorted" cars are out there. Even the parts that aren't broken are cheap and nasty. Start with the bad interiors... JR |

Yeah, V^2, it's hard for me to imagine you fitting in a Panterra. OTOH, I would fit fine. I'm not in love the the Panterra's looks. It almost looks like a kit car to me. Choosing between the Ferrari and the 930 would be a dilemma for me. On looks alone, it would be the Ferrari. Probably on engine sound, too. I think the 930 would be a better daily driver. Choices, choices

Yes to the 930 first. However, I like the styling of the Pantera. Problem issues a side and if I had the cash for a collection I would have a stock pantera I don't like the flares & spoilers. Oh, yeah and a Dino.
For now my 88 Ce will keep me happy. Until the cash gods say other wise. ![]() Life is Good. |

None of the above.
That Pantera in the picture is not stock. The quality of production was not good with the Pantera. It is also tended to rust badly. The electrics were so bad that Elvis Presley once fired a Colt Python into his yellow Pantera after it would not start. |

I think the F car doesnt look as dated as you guys make it out to be. The pantera is cool but looks more wonky.

Driving the Porsche then requires; Lederhosen and a hat with a feather from a pheasant that my Father wore. Let's not let the long up to the knee socks and how white the socks are to be. Not be forgotten. If you want to really get back to the roots of Porsche, the requirement is a Chaplin or whatshisnames stach to be really part of the breed.

I saw this Pantera GT5S , silver ages ago. It still sticks in my mind more than the Ferrari and Waaaay more than the Porsche.
