QR Codes

anyone here familiar with QR codes? Their generation, printing and subsequent web destination via smart phone?

stomachmonkey 05-17-2012 01:42 PM

But of course.

Watcha want to know?

QR-Code Generator

Create QR Code

pop in your url, it will generate a downloadable graphic that you can use in print, on a web page, whatever.

if you have a qr code reader on your phone already you can scan it straight from the screen to test.

All of my friends have iPhones. Literally 99% of them. None of us scan QR codes. Ever. We should be the target market for the technology (tech savy 20 somethings with disposable income). So far they are missing the mark.

They love them in Japan and Europe. I've used them some here. I mostly use them to get a link from my PC to my phone. I use a plugin in Firefox.

We had one at the recent NAB (broadcaster's show) as a link to a draw for a free pair of monitors. The majority of this supposedly tech-savvy crowd had no clue how to do it. We showed numerous people where & how to even download an app to use QRs. I have noticed an uptick in flyers using them as boarding passes, however.

that is what I thought. :(

fwiw, what I've found is that the QR code is a novelty. Here in the land of Microsoft a few will ping our QR just because they can, and they understand it - but most customers don't. When you get right down to it, the machine (phone/whatever) should be able to read (OCR) even a web address. So, it's just a matter of time before QR is on the scrap-heap of tech novelties.

I'm now carrying two smart phones, iPhone(personal) and HTC Inspire(work).... Nary a QR reader here too. I see them all over, but I've yet to see someone actually scan one.

I use them all the time. If im out somewhere and get handed a pamphlet or business card with a QR code, am I going to take the time to type in the url ? not. Im going to scan the code and throw away the card. I can always look at it later.

I have a qr code on my business cards. With a single tap, the user can add me to their contacts... No manual entry! (and no data connection required)

Pm me for details

Have you seen Word Card Mobile? ...it predates QR and with one tap, it takes a pict of a b'card, OCR's the info, and drops the info into the appropriate contact fields. (email, office ph, cell, address...)

THEN you can use the guys b'card to pick your teeth after lunch. ymmv

very cool. I am surprised these things haven't caught on.

The business card scanner seems useful, the other things? Not so much. Voice recognition works great on my Android phone. Just tap the mic icon, speak, url/text entered. Very useful.
