Yeah, I had no idea. I knew that many/most places provided more than what is mostly standard in the US which is 2 weeks. I'd long heard about 4 weeks and 6 weeks an I think even 8 weeks, but I didn't know anyplace had laws that set minimums.

Every place that I've ever worked was 2 weeks, and then you may earn more as you're there longer. Until this job. I started with 4 weeks of vaca, 2 weeks of holiday and some sick days. I think the only thing that rolls to the next year is the sick time.

We could accumulate up to 300 hours from year to year, so we took some epic vacations, some well over a month. Nice perk, for sure. I never felt any guilt about using it, if you earn it use it.

Yes, my math is bad. I meant pay period, not week, and we are paid bi weekly. Some days my brain and fingers aren't on the same page, or book for that matter.

Finn

Finn,

I am trying to move myself in the direction you are in. I am being met with resistance from the old timers saying that isn't something that I want to do. I like the adventure of my job just as much as I love the science. I wouldn't mind being a well site geologist and making $1,000+ a day.

As to the original question, I get two weeks of PTO and another 10 days of paid sick days, even though those 10 days really are unlimited as long as you get your job done. Also, at the end of the year we receive a 'wellness bonus' if you didn't use your sick time. So it isn't a 'use it or lose it' type situation.

You need a vacation, all that hanging around in bars must be exhausting

anyone have a vacation home that is willing to trade for some wheels

Hard-Deck 05-22-2012 07:04 AM

Yes, I use all of mine and I ensure all of my Soldiers do too.

sammyg2 05-22-2012 07:16 AM

I get 5 weeks a year but usually only take about 3-1/2 weeks.
Pretty soon I'll stop accruing addtitional vacation until I use it up.

Perfect.

I use 100% of my vacation days... which means that I've taken one week off in my first two years with my company.

Last year I sold a week back. Last time I do that ****.

I get 22 days a year. We are forced to take at least 10 days/2 weeks consecutive for most positions, just for auditing purposes, and that's never a problem. Indeed, everyone takes every vacation day they've got coming and every sick day they can use without getting written up for poor attendance.

For myself, I try to take two 2-week vacations a year, but projects and such usually interfere with the second.

It's an internal control requirement for your company not an audit purpose. Audit ensures internal controls are effective. They do not make rules, they just test rules.

Don't make me say this again. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/suppo...leys/freak.gif

And this rule is so auditing knows the controls are working, right? So, as I said, for auditing purposes...

i dont feel rested until i have taken an extended vacation. personally, i think time off should be taken in month long chunks.

tip, email yourself all of your work passwords. you will forget them!

Just having some fun, bro. Common perception, even among control professionals, is that audit has requirements that must be met. Audit ain't but an extension of management . Although, in theory, they are independent from management. (insert rolleyes here) Management makes the rules. Not audit.

It would be for management (owners of internal control) purposes.

I got no ax to grind. I did put the rasta smiley in.

I get 15 paid days (plus holidays) and 15 non-paid. Sure I lose money taking the non-paid, but life is more than work. And the world is a very big place with too many places to see.

Work to live, don't live to work.
