How to remove a battery?
 

So a battery apparently ruptured in my 4-cell Maglight. I had to put it in a vice to get it open, and the bottom D-cell is swollen and corroded to the flashlight body. Any tips/tricks for pulling the battery and cleaning the aluminum flashlight body?

Last time I had a Maglite do that, I removed all the parts I could for future use and ditched the rest.

That's all I got.

Had the same thing happen to me. Called mag lite and they told me to send it in. A few days later had a brand new flashlight. That was some time ago but I would at least try.

Open the end where the lens and bulb are, take those out, then use something like a broom handle or dowel to ram down into the top of the stuck battery to pop it out.

Maybe soak the bottom cap and bottom four inches of the shaft in a water-baking soda mix and see if that cuts/dissolves the corrosion out of there.

Use some alcohol to dissolve the residue. (wood alcohol or isopropyl) Then they should just fall out.

My BILs noise cancelling headphones had a leaky battery that was stuck in place.
I just soaked the battery socket with alcohol and then used a small pick to get it out.

We have had the same problem and most times it was a lost cause, probably have had 7-8 of them destroyed but for us at work it was from bad battery's. Its the third world where I work and getting good Duracell or Energizer battery's is tough, the company's sell their reject batteries to recyclers and they package them up and sell them as good, it will show a Duracell battery in the pack but won't have the brand name on the pack and it was these rejects that caused the problems, it got so bad that we switched to the LEd lights that wou wear on your head, AAA batteries and I just bring them from home. What brand of battery were you using?

Take a large lag bolt and ram it in and pull it out. Maglight typically doesn't replace for a bad battery.

This worked for me recently with a 2D maglight.
