The douchiest thing I've heard in a while

There's a guy I see frequently at the gym. In the locker room, I often overhear him talking about various investment stuff, real estate, etc. A couple of days ago, he was whining to one of his buddies how someone at his "multi-family rental" kept b!tching about something being broken and how he didn't want to fix it. His punch line was You know what? Fück 'em. That's what they get for being poor.

Having been a renter for a good part of my life, with shættty landlords like him that never fixed anything, it was all I could do not to kick him in the mouth.

What a pathetic jerk.

masraum 05-19-2012 02:25 PM

I'm kind of sorry you didn't. Only the resulting assault charges and lawsuit excuse you.

Gretch 05-19-2012 02:44 PM

He is an ******* because he talks about the seedier side of being a landlord. He should just shut his pie hole and get on with his business.

RWebb 05-19-2012 02:53 PM

sounds like he either violated the law, or the rental contract

next time try to befriend him, get his info then stick it to him

DanielDudley 05-19-2012 03:17 PM

What else will he do in business dealings ? My guess is whatever he can get away with.

on2wheels52 05-19-2012 03:20 PM

While most of my living is made off of "poor" people I don't think anyone has heard me making any comments like that. I've been on some low budgets but I was always sure things would be getting better for me. I've been a pawnbroker long enough to see the kids and grandkids in the same rut as their elders. It's the only way of life for some people.

What a "Trou de cul" trou du cul - Wiktionary

One can only hope that he loose it all...

I worked with people that made 6 figures salary but made less contribution to society than people working at minimum salary

What an idiot. Does he think he'll never have to fix it? That kind of attitude breeds that kind of attitude. He may fine the place trashed when they move out.

turbo6bar 05-19-2012 03:50 PM

Doesn't matter if he is a landlord or not. A person lacking humility trumps one's profession or lack thereof.

Landlording is one business where one can become jaded by bad renters or bad experiences. The best thing is for those landlords to wash themselves of that pursuit.

A few weeks ago a local newspaper article told a story of a man who was able to buy a home after receiving cash assistance from a non-profit. I don't recall his exact words, but he said,"Renting was terrible. I'm so glad to no longer be a second-class citizen." Wow. What a humble man, and what a slap in the face of renters.

When I was a poor renter I used to fix a lot of stuff myself and let the landlord know. If it was a repair that involved more than just my labor, I would give the landlord the chance to fix it. If he declined, I would get it fixed and deduct it from my rent. Landlords would squeal like injured piggies. It's difficult to evict in California.

Dantilla 05-19-2012 04:19 PM

People that rent from me are my customers.

I want them happy so they will continure to give me money every month.
Customer service is very important in the rental business.

I bet this idiot has lots of issues with lousy renters because that's the only type that will rent from a guy like that.

Quality renters want a quality home. If I provide that, they are happy to stay, and I'm happy to serve them.

porsche4life 05-19-2012 04:22 PM

Exaclty, my last landlord took good care of me, and when I moved out, I had one of my friends ready to rent the place, he got another great tenant, and it didn't sit empty...

Baz 05-19-2012 04:41 PM

All good responses. I'll simply add that a person with character and integrity has wealth beyond many who have money....

I'm really sick of all these 'sorry excuses for human beings' in our society.

I have rentals and they are all kept in above average condition for many reasons..
1. Yes, it's not their property but they tend to take better care and treat it as if it is.
2. It's the right thing to do.
3. If anything is out of order after they move, it's either "wear and tear" or they f'ed it up. No deposit back.
4. It's the right thing to do.

widgeon13 05-19-2012 05:47 PM

I believe in karma. It usually catches up with idiots like the landlord.

Funny how that works.

Well said, craigster!

We rent my MIL's condo, and I'm about to close on a rental condo near the beach in Oxnard. I want good tenants, so I try and do the right thing. I used to own a duplex and I lived upstairs never saw a roach, my tenant was from Kenya and used to complain about roaches. His unit was filthy all the time. When he moved out, I found a family of mice living in a pan in the sink, that had a dozen pans dumped in it that hadn't been washed in months, IMHO. Also piles of soiled disposable diapers all over the unit.

Geoz1 05-19-2012 07:36 PM

Your not his tennant, so why the concern? Can anyone mind their own business? It may have been in a public place, but he was not talking to you.
