I'm pretty sure you are wrong about the braking. The real problem was Mickey friggin' Rourke walking onto the track and plasma-whipping the poor guy's front axle.

I watched an interview recently with Brabham about this incident. He basically said he was off the racing line and it's very sandy/dusty, he could not pull it up. He had a chuckle..

Worst part is that before he hit, the car had probably scrubbed off enough speed that if he'd let off the brakes it may have hooked up and turned.
