Custody issues-Have an assessor coming over tomorrow.- Advice?
 

Hello.

I'm going for custody of my Son as I've mentioned in a post some time ago.

The assessor is coming over tomorrow. I am asking for very good advice here as my Son -who is 12- and I wish to live together.
I don't know what we're going to do as she observers.

-btw-my Son and I do everything together and then he takes off on his bike to be with his pals which is cool.

At 12 I would think that a family mediator would take his wishes seriously. Have him meet with the mediator without either of you in the room so that he doesn't have to worry about being open in front of you.

First impressions count. Shave and a haircut. Hide the porn. Get rid of the beer bottles. Buy a few smart magazines (eg. Economist, Harvard Review, Scientific American) and scatter these about. Wash the dishes. Clean the house. Put some Vivaldi on the stereo. Smell nice. Be sincere. Offer her coffee and homemade muffins ( even if they are not).....you get the picture.

Yeah treat her like you want to bang the hell out of her.

I thought 12 was the age the kids could make the decision, maybe it varies from state to state? Be yourself, if it as you describe I don't think you have a lot to worry about. Just remember he is 12, what he tells you and what he tells his mom may be different. Make extreme efforts not to put him in the awkward position between "mom and dad".

Hide the vitriol. Don't rag about your wife to the assessor the way you've been ragging about her to us on this forum.

I went through this same things years ago Dottore has it spot on. Don't hit on her if it's a her. If you get lucky it's a dude and he hits on you. Happened to me. I passed but won custody!
