70% Better. . . Than what?

Thought this was the perfect off topic question. . .

How do you think the makers of 'Pam' calculated that whatever is inside this can is 70% better?

Surely one of regulars here has worked or consulted with ConAgra foods and knows the answer!

Maybe it has 70% less fat than the original? Or 70% better at non stick than the original.

I luv marketing... BS to make us buy something and feel good at the same time.

vash 05-28-2012 02:52 PM

70% better than the remaining 30%?

dunno. maybe the lab has a scale for measuring how much it takes to lift a pancake off the griddle?

dan88911 05-28-2012 02:53 PM

They didn't .It's what's on the out side of the can that makes it 70% more likely to sell. Marketing B.S.

Probably true but. . . Someone make something up!

The truth is boring!

That's like when Tylenol started selling "Maximum Strength Tylenol".
The same dosage as before but they sold it as the maximum strength allowed by law...

They just made the can bigger, so you can use more to get the desired effect, therefore better.

i do find it funny that it is 70% better, but the can also says.."original".

i quit buying the stuff..havent really missed it. now i just wipe things with 100% canola oil..wait! it is the same thing?

pavulon 05-28-2012 03:18 PM

70% better than the 30% canola oil stuff. What do I win?

on2wheels52 05-28-2012 03:47 PM

I should have Cathy chime in; I found SEVEN cans of Pam in use (only one like the OP, two sets of two of kind, one "grilling", one "for grilling"). I didn't realize she was such a Pam connoisseur.

70% slicker? Maybe they've added some synthetic oil, but haven't figured out a way to make it sound safe for human consumption yet.

It sounds like that marketing talk "Up to 70% off Sale" Everyone hears 70% off. What they don't figure out until they get to the store is "up to" means anything from 1% and maybe 70%, but not exceeding 70% off.

URY914 05-28-2012 05:52 PM

Sounds like something you'd say if you were running for re-election....

wdfifteen 05-28-2012 05:54 PM

70 % better!?! Crap, I gotta get some before they sell out!!

s_morrison57 05-29-2012 05:05 AM

Same thing with "Tide" how many times can they make that stuff new and improved?

ckissick 05-29-2012 10:59 AM

It must have been hard to get it to be 70% better, instead of, say 69% or 71%.

madmmac 05-29-2012 11:17 AM

70% better than the last time you sprayed it on your hot dog and but it in a bun.

Well, Tide has changed the formula several times. Sometimes because of the guvmit edicts. Sometimes just to make it cheaper to manufacture. But you can bet you last dollar it wasn't always an improvement, just new.
