Runners, walkers - what do you carry with you and ...

how do you carry them?

I usually drive to a park then walk/run. I end up putting my keys and wallet in my shorts pocket which jiggles and can rub raw. What do you take with you?

How about us on Rollerblades? I don't wear special shorts, just older normal ones (cargo shorts). Wallet in back pocket, car keys in a front pocket. House keys in another, cargo pocket an iPhone - used for tracking my session, in the other front pocket. No issues here. Oh yeah, Chapstick. I'm addicted.

Ok, let me preface this by saying I hate fanny packs. But, when I run, I too hate anything jiggling in my pockets. There are "fanny pack" like belts you can get at running stores. The one I have is the Nathan brand. Slim, fits snug. I carry my keys, money, and ID in there. They are designed not to bounce around. I have worn it for marathons.

Another idea if you just want it for a key and ID, there are running hats that have a zipper pocket. I have one that fits an ID and a key. I usually only take my house key if leaving from home and my car key if somewhere else.

Hope that helps. I actually have a running belt that has water bottles (evey distributed) and a small wallet attached. Holds iPod too. Use that for my long runs, 5 miles or higher.

I stuff my car key in back pocket of my Jersey every time I go out for a ride. I take my lic. and a few bucks slipped into a plastic card holder. I don't walk or run. I have done enough running to last me a few life times during my youth. No ipod or anything for music.

I usually bring my phone, a key, ID and a little cash. Since I have an iPhone, the armband iPod holders work well for me for holding everything. I agree, stuff floating around in pockets can get pretty annoying after a while.

Running is the devil's work. I ran XC in high school and that was enough running for me for ever.

Cycling - house key, drivers lic, debit card, coffee cash in a ziplock tucked in the jersey pocket. iPhone in the other jersey pocket. I've thought about mounting the iPhone on the handlebars but it looks ugly. I never listen to music cycling. Seems dangerous.

(For that matter, most bike computers look ugly. I haven't found a small, attractive one yet.)

This.... I've never used one, but I know they are out there. Camelback makes one that looks good, holds a water bottle and a few things and I've seen them on sale for like 10 bucks....

I've been running for over 40 years and all I have ever done is keep everything in the car and just tie my car key into my shoe laces and tuck the key in where the laces cross.

Had to give up running many years ago, but this is what I've always done also when out running/walking, etc. A single house or car key "tied & tucked" :).

the pure beauty of running..maybe the only beauty..(because it sucks ass) is the fact that the only gear you really need are shoes..and you can do it right outside your house.

i NEVER drive anywhere to run. why? just start from the backdoor and go. scenery? whatever..scenery doesnt help.

besides, getting into a car all sweaty to drive home just seems weird.

my friend clips his key to his labrador. dog doesnt seem to mind.

Amen to that! I didn't run in high school (team sports) running is just no fun for me... and when I take my coffee cup and walk down to the ocean where the bike/jogging path is... none of the runners/joggers are smiling.

Double dog Amen to that!!!

I have always use one of those little bags that hangs under bicycle seat, just enough room for keys, wallet, and a multi tool.

I'm not sure I'd clip my key to a dog that won't "mind" :)

Now a well trained dog that'll come to ya is different...

House key in pocket and Benchmade clipped to waste band

Rapewta 05-31-2012 06:57 AM

The purity of running is just shorts and shoes.
From the house... nothing.
Registered Fun Runs... shorts that have the inside velcro pocket for your car keys.
Hydration is important and anything over 10 miles has to be planned for. Water fountains, gas stations, hiding water bottles along the route, etc.
Very uncomplicated way to stay in shape. No overhead. No cell phone, no music, no food to carry and total freedom.

ossiblue 05-31-2012 07:04 AM

For years, I did as Rot 911 mentioned and took only my key and tied to my laces. However, since nearly getting killed by a right turn driver who rolled a red light, I have since added a small pouch that fits in the laces of your shoe (bought at a sporting goods store.) Inside I put a small card with my name, address, and phone#, my key (when I take one), and a couple of bucks folded up for emergencies. Very light and causes no distractions. For sounds, I use the ipod nano (about 1" square) clipped to my shorts.

Agree with everything posted by Rapewta, above, except for sounds--I need something for the two hour runs. Keep it simple, plan ahead for water, run as a minimalist.

vash 05-31-2012 07:12 AM

i have that road ID thing.

FYI, get one size bigger than you think you need. their sizing chart is retarded.

i wear it on my hunting trips. kind of nice knowing my rotting bear eaten corpse can be identified by the bright blue, TIGHT (well it will be looser and fit properly on my bony corpse), wristband.

start the runs from your house CD55..that huge hill back up to your home would be amazing to vomit up your lung on!! :D

Hard-Deck 05-31-2012 08:00 AM

I keep my vehicle or house key, whichever appropriate from where I'm starting in a pouch on my running shorts...I make sure my shorts have one.

Iphone strapped above bicep for my GPS map tracker and timer.

I write in permanent marker "A POS" on my sleve to indicate my blood type for paramedics.
