Barn find vintage kart.... it is ON!
Now that I'm vintage myself I've been looking for a competition kart from days of yore. Anyone seen one of these?

You'll learn TONS on the Flathead B&S run the crap out of it prior to trying a 2 stroke.

Put a two stroke rotary or reed valve engine in it and be prepared to scare the sh$t out of yourself. The old girl pictured was an absolute handfull. The motor had a bit of work as was putting out around 26HP.

Thanks for the replies. Eventually I will need a period correct 2 cycle engine to be eligible for vintage class, but I'm not sure which one. Currently searching through 5 outbuildings for the original engine.
I went for a short 'no brakes' drive and it was fairly impressive. The M/C and caliper are on the bench getting rebuilt. Rear right rim has a wallowed out keyway, so I'll have to find an inner rim.

Briggs raptors are cool but getting expensive to maintain in this day and age of Chinese clone motors.
I was at a race recently where they had a bunch of Wankel motor karts. Good German design and lots of power and noise. On of the guys told me his motor was about 5K. Expensive fun! |

What sets vintage off from vintage is having a steel seat frame and the motor behind, not along side. I'm going to guess that kart is from the 70's, not 50's or 60's. It's still old!

I think the Vintage Karting Assoc. might let everything from 75 back IIRC. The pictures on their site show a few like this one, so I hope I'm in the window. Zeke, I know you have 40 years of knowlege on karts. So is this a junior kart or adult and how does one tell. Thanks, Jeff

I have an 80cc or so McCullough chainsaw that has a cracked handle mount. I bought it to install on something and I think you just inspired me!

After a little research, I think you might have a circa '73 Meyers Lancer. If so, very collectible in the world of vintage karting. Made by a guy named Walt Meyers when he had a shop in Bellflower CA.
If it's not a Meyers, it may very well be a "bucket bug" from Bug Manufacturing in Azusa CA. I think they have some archival pics on their site. |

I already have a thread going there. But as I'm excited about this find, I can't stand waiting for info and wanted your take, so thanks mucho for info. And I just found the original engine so I'm even more into this kart.
